Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.— Senior Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) tallied six points on five goals and one assist and visiting Roger Williams University outscored Babson College 8-1 in the first 25 minutes of the second half on the way to a 16-9 victory over the Beavers Tuesday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at MacDowell Field.
With the loss, Babson had its three-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 7-7 overall while Roger Williams won its third straight game and improved to 9-6.
Graduate student Emily Curtis (Walpole, Mass.) led a balanced Babson scoring attack with two goals and two assists while senior Claudia Dodge (Pelham, N.Y.) tallied two goals and one assist and senior Erin Jayne (Merrimac, Mass.) and junior Nicole Darveau (Sudbury, Mass.) contributed two goals apiece. Senior Anna Katherine Sypniewski (Vero Beach, Fla.) scored once, junior Eileen Manning (Needham, Mass.) registered a team-high four caused turnovers, sophomore Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.) collected a team-high five draw controls, and sophomore goalie Kathleen Murphy (Scarborough, Maine) made 12 saves in the setback.
Senior Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.) was good for three goals, three assists, four ground balls and four caused turnovers for the Hawks while classmate Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) fired in four goals and grabbed a game-high nine draw controls. Junior Julia Kelley (Foxborough, Mass.) tallied two goals and an assist, senior Campbell Haller (Nashua, N.H.) scored twice, and junior Carlil Chapin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) collected four assists. Senior Brooke McErlain (Hampton, N.H.) recorded six ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers, and sophomore Zoey Cormican (Rochester, N.H.) make nine saves in goal in her first start of the season.
The teams went back and forth for most of the first half. After Cavanaugh opened the scoring on a free position goal less than a minute in, Babson took the lead with consecutive goals by Sypniewski, Darveau and Curtis and held a 3-1 advantage after one quarter.
Kelley and Jayne traded goals in the early going of the second quarter before Cavanaugh scored back-to-back goals with assists from Chapin to knot the score at 4-4. Dodge put Babson ahead by one but Cunningham and Cavanaugh answered as the visitors regained the lead. Dodge fired in her second of the quarter in the final minute as the teams went into the break tied at 6-all.
The Hawks outscored Babson 4-1 in the third quarter as Kelley and Cunningham scored the first two goals, and after Curtis found the net for Babson, Beck put in two consecutive goals for Roger Williams. The visitors pulled away with the first four goals of the fourth quarter, including two from Haller and one each from Cunningham and Cavanaugh, as the margin ballooned to 14-7 with five minutes remaining. The teams traded two goals each the rest of the way.
Roger Wiliams finished with a 37-25 advantage in shots and a 17-11 margin on draws. The Hawks were 4-of-8 on free position shots while Babson converted just 1-of-6.
Babson is right back in action on Wednesday with a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest against Emerson at 4 p.m. at MacDowell Field. RWU plays a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup Saturday at Wentworth at 4 p.m.

• Dodge has scored at least one goal in 12 straight games and has caused at least one turnover in seven of her last nine outings.
