SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 1-4 all-time against Middlebury in a series that dates back to 2009.
• The Beavers have dropped three straight in the series since defeating the Panthers at home back in 2010.
LAST MEETING
• Jane Early scored four times and Lily Riseberg, Grace Getman and Erin Nicholas all finished with two goals apiece as Middlebury defeated the Beavers, 16-5, on March 13, 2022, in Babson Park.
• Eric Barr finished with four ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers for the Panthers, who scored five unanswered goals to end the first quarter and converted 5-of-10 free-position chances.
• Courtney Kaskey '22 scored twice and sophomore Clare Connolly led all players with seven draw controls in the loss for Babson.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (0-1) opened the season with an 11-10 2OT loss to Skidmore last Saturday.
• Senior Claudia Dodge finished with four goals, three caused turnovers and two ground balls and junior Nicole Darveau and sophomore Amelia Novitch both scored twice for the Beavers, who led 9-3 early in the third quarter.
• The Green and White returns four of its top five scorers from a team that finished 13-6 last spring, highlighted by the duo of senior Erin Jayne (51-36-87) and Dodge (41-17-58), who also led the squad with 49 ground balls and 40 caused turnovers.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Kathleen Murphy, who stopped 11 shots in the season opener against Skidmore, posted a 9.71 goals against average and a .415 save percentage in 19 starts last year.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
• No. 1 Middlebury (0-0) returns five of its top six scorers from a team that went 22-1 and captured its third Division III national title since 2016 last season.
• Early (80-19-99) was selected as the Division III Player of the Year, Hope Shue (56-5-61) was second on the team with 19 free-position goals, and the duo of Kelcey Dion (26-17-43) and Maggie Coughlin (18-21-39) combined for 38 assists last spring.
• Barr earned All-America honors after leading the team with 84 draw controls, 46 ground balls and 36 caused turnovers, while Kylie Wilson started all 23 games on defense and scooped up 36 ground balls to go along with 28 forced turnovers.
• Annie Enriettto won all 16 of her starts posting a 6.01 goals against average and a .541 save percentage, while Gina Driscoll finished 6-1 in seven starts and had a 5.50 goals against average and a .536 save percentage in 11 appearances last spring.
OPENING STATEMENTS
• Despite the loss last Saturday against Skidmore, Babson sophomore Jessica Evans finished with a career-high eight draw controls.
• Junior Zoë Michaud led the Green and White with a career-high four caused turnovers and classmate Eileen Manning finished with a career-best three caused turnovers against the Thoroughbreds.
• Murphy, who stopped 11 shots against Skidmore, registered double-digit saves for the fifth time in her career.
WORKING LATE
• Prior to last Saturday, Babson had not played in a double-overtime game since the 2015 season opener when it suffered a 13-12 loss to Connecticut College.
DODGE EARNS PRESEASON RECOGNITION
• Coming off a 2022 campaign that saw her achieve new career highs in nearly every statistical category, Dodge was named to the USA Lacrosse All-America third team back in January.
• A first-team all-conference and all-region selection last spring, finished second on the team in scoring and draw controls (43) in addition to recording career highs in both ground balls and caused turnovers.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR PRODUCTION
• Just the Beavers' third NEWMAC Player of the Year selection over the last decade, Jayne put together one of the highest scoring seasons in program history in 2022.
• She tied for fourth on Babson's single-season list with 87 points and her 51 goals and 36 assists helped her join Lexi Lenaghan '19 (2018, 2019) and Georgia Salvatore '19 (2019) as the only players to register 50 goals and 30 assists in the same season.
HITTING THE ROAD
• Sunday's contest at Middlebury is the first of three straight away from home for the Beavers, who travel to Wesleyan on Wednesday and will take on Rhodes in St. Leo, Fla., on March 13 before returning to MacDowell Field for their NEWMAC opener against Springfield on March 18.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 35-2 since the start of the 2018 campaign when allowing 10 goals or less.
• Babson was successful on 17 of its 19 clearing opportunities in last Saturday's season opener at Skidmore.
