WHAT TO KNOW
• After half the team opened the season at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Meet in San Diego last Saturday, Babson's full men's and women's squads are set to compete at the Bridgewater State Invitational on Saturday.
• The Beavers will travel to Bridgewater State for the seventh time in nine seasons going back to 2014 on Saturday.
2022 BRIDGEWATER STATE INVITATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
• Junior Eric Bottern set a school record on the way to finishing first in the shot put and senior Jed Kaufman and junior Michael Agard helped the Babson men win the 4x100-meter relay with a then-school-record time of 42.47 last March at Bridgewater State.
• Sophomore Jack Reynolds was the runner-up in the high jump and classmate Julian Ivarra took third place in the men's 5000 meters.
• In the women's half of the meet, sophomore Angela Hagstrom placed third in the 400 meters and teamed with seniors Rachel Ip and Caroline Reilly to finish fourth in the 4x400-meter relay.
• Senior Nicole Johns and sophomore Eujin Shin finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 10,000 meters.
SCOUTING THE BABSON WOMEN
• The Beavers broke three school records at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Meet to open the season last Saturday at Point Loma Nazarene.
• First-year Ashna Krishnamurthy broke a 2002 mark with a leap of 35-feet, 10.5-inches in the triple jump, classmate Brooke Jankowski achieved a new program record in the long jump (16-feet, 7.75-inches) and teamed with Reilly, Hagstrom and first-year Chloe Clifford to set another record with a time of 4:07.53 in the 4x400-meter relay.
• Jankowski also posted a time of 15.94 in the 100, Hagrstrom ran 1:06.89 in the 400 hurdles to finish less than a second off her personal best and first-year Trista Sicard's leap of 35-feet, 0.5-inches in the triple jump ranks third in school history.
SCOUTING THE BABSON MEN
• The Beavers set two school records and had seven competitors achieve regional championship qualifying marks at last Saturday's Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Meet.
• Bottern bettered his won mark with a throw of 133-feet, 2-inches in the hammer and also finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 48-feet, 3.5-inches, while junior Anthony Rodriguez broke his own record with a time of 14:40.02 in the 5000 meters.
• Kaufman placed sixth with a time of 15.33 in the 110-meter hurdles and Agard came in fifth with a leap of 21-feet, 8.25-inches in the long jump and posted a time of 11.20 in the 100 meters.
• Senior Yudai Yamakawa finished seventh in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:10.62) and first-year Max Gregoire placed eighth with a time of 1:55.93 in the 800 meters.
QUALIFYING MARKS
• Seven men and three women qualified for the NCAA New England Championships in the Beavers' opening meet of the spring, while Rodriguez also qualified for the NEICCCA Championships in the 5000 meters.
• The women's D3NE qualifiers include Krishnamurthy (triple jump), Jankowski (100 hurdles) and Hagstrom (400 hurdles), while Rodriguez (5000m), Agard (long jump), Bottern (shot put), Kaufman (110 hurdles), Gregoire (800m) and graduate student Ryan Wilson (1500m) all punched their tickets to the regionals for the men.
