SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 36-5 all-time against MIT in a series that dates back to 1988.
• The Beavers have won three in a row and six of their last seven games against the Engineers since 2016.
• Five of the last six matchups between the teams have been decided by three goals or fewer, which includes a pair of OT victories for the Green and White in 2017 and 2022.
LAST MEETING
• Senior Claudia Dodge recorded four goals and two assists for six points and also led all players with five caused turnovers as the Beavers defeated MIT, 13-10 in a NEWMAC Tournament semifinal on May 4, 2022, in Babson Park.
• Courtney Kaskey scored three times and senior Erin Jayne and junior Genevieve Bushey added two goals and two assists apiece for Babson, which built a seven-goal lead midway through the third quarter.
• Junior Meredith Arterburn scored four times and senior Lindsey Gambino registered three goals for the Engineers.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (2-3, 1-0 NEWMAC) has won two straight games and is coming off a 16-6 victory over Springfield in its conference opener last Saturday.
• Graduate student Emily Curtis finished with five goals and two assists to match her season high with seven points and senior Anna Katherine Sypniewski matched her career high with four goals for the Beavers, who got nine saves and three ground balls from sophomore Kathleen Murphy.
• Curtis (15-5-20) has nine goals and 14 points over the last two games, Jayne (5-10-15) is tied for fifth in the NEWMAC in assists and Dodge (11-1-12) has contributed eight ground balls, nine draw controls and five caused turnovers this spring.
• Sophomore Clare Connolly ranks first in the conference with 33 draw controls, junior Zoe Michaud leads the Green and White with seven caused turnovers and Murphy has posted a 12.18 goals against average and a .422 save percentage in five starts to go along with a team-high 12 ground balls.
SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
• MIT (6-1, 1-0 NEWMAC) has won two straight games and is coming off a 25-2 rout of Mount Holyoke to open league play last Saturday.
• Ellie Rabenold had five goals and two assists, Gambino produced three goals and three assists and Sydney Pyon scored four times for the Engineers, who built a 10-goal lead less than seven minutes into the contest.
• Gambino (24-20-44) leads the NEWMAC in points, Rabenold (27-5-32) ranks first in the conference in goals and leads the team with 19 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers, and Pyon (15-8-23) has scored a team-high seven free-position goals this spring.
• Arterburn (13-10-23) is fifth in the league with 27 draw controls, Gwen Flusche (8-12-20) has forced 12 turnovers and the duo of Molly Dulde and Abigail Kolyer has combined to post a 7.12 goals against average and a .462 save percentage.
PRODUCING AGAINST THE ENGINEERS
• Jayne and Dodge both scored seven goals and contributed three assists apiece for 10 points in two wins last year against MIT.
• Dodge also accounted for 11 of the Beavers' 26 caused turnovers, while Bushey (3-2-5) and Sypniewski (4-0-4) combined for seven goals and nine points.
CURTIS CLAIMS CONFERENCE HONOR
• After producing nine goals and 14 points in wins over Rhodes and Springfield, Curtis was selected as the NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
• She had had four goals, three assists and a caused turnover in the 20-11 win over the Lynx in St. Leo, Fla., back on March 13 and followed it up with five goals, two assists and two ground balls in the Beavers' league opener last Saturday.
SUCCESS IN THE NEWMAC
• Babson owns a .879 winning percentage (51-7) against conference opponents since 2016.
• The Beavers are 26-3 at home and 42-4 in the regular season during this stretch and have finished outside the top two in the league standings just once in 2021 when they played just three regular season games.
BATTLE FOR THE TOP SPOT
• Following last Saturday's dominating victory over Springfield, which finished atop the NEWMAC preseason coaches' poll, Babson has a chance to solidify its spot atop the league standings when it hosts MIT, which finished third in the preseason poll.
• Although its still March, the winner of Saturday's contest will have the inside track at earning the top seed in the conference tournament, which begins at the end of April.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 42-3 when leading at halftime going back to the start of the 2018 campaign.
• Babson is 2-0 this season and 15-1 since the start of last year when scoring 12 or more goals.
• The Green and White has won 26 of its last 27 games when holding its opponents to 10 goals or fewer.
• In their last two wins, the Beavers have outscored opponents 26-10 in the first half.
