POINT LOMA, Calif.—The Babson College women's track & field team broke three school records to highlight a number of strong performances to open the 2023 season at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Meet at Point Loma Nazarene University on Saturday afternoon.
First-year Ashna Krishnamurthy (Saratoga, Calif.) broke the program's longest-standing record with a leap of 35-feet, 10.5-inches that bettered the mark set by Katie Collins '02 back in 2002. In addition to her 10th-place result in the triple jump, she also finished 13th in the long jump behind first-year Brooke Jankowski (Methuen, Mass.), who also set a new school record by clearing 16-feet, 7.75-inches in her collegiate debut.
The Beavers' third record came in the final event of the meet as the quartet of senior Caroline Reilly (East Greenwich, R.I.), Jankowski, sophomore Angela Hagstrom (Portsmouth, N.H.) and first-year Chloe Clifford (Marshfield, Mass.) posted a time of 4:07.53 that was good for fifth place in the 4x400-meter relay. The time was nearly two-and-a-half seconds faster than the previous program mark set back in 2019.
Jankowski posted an NCAA New England Championships qualifying time of 15.94 in the 100-meter hurdles, and Hagstrom joined her with a time of 1:06.89 in the 400-meter hurdles that was less than a second off her career best. First-year Trista Sicard (Mansfield, Mass.) finished had a leap of 35-feet in the triple jump that ranks third in program history, while fellow rookie Robyn Wilkes (Atlanta, Ga.) crossed the finish line with a time of 26.97 in the 200 meters.
Reilly posted a time of 1:02.91 in the 400 meters, Clifford ran 2:24.82 in the 800 meters and first-year Alexandra Kirkpatrick (Middleborough, Mass.) registered a time of 19.44.37 in her collegiate debut in the 5000 meters. Senior Nicole Johns (Peabody, Mass.) was just over a minute behind her with a time of 20.52.98.
The Beavers' 4x100-meter relay squad narrowly missed setting a new program mark as they placed seventh with a time of 49.65 that was just over a tenth of a second off last year's mark.
Babson returns to action next Saturday when it travels to the Bridgewater State Invitational.
