Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.—Seniors Maxwell Conlin (Alameda, Calif.), classmate Jason Weisman (Claremont, Calif.) and first-year Luis Utrilla (Barcelona, Spain) all were victorious in singles and doubles to help No. 33 Babson College defeat Cal Lutheran University, 7-2, in non-conference men's tennis action on Monday afternoon.
Babson has won two straight matches to improve to 4-1 on the year, while Cal Lutheran drops to 1-5 with its fifth straight loss.
Conlin and Weisman made quick work of Friedrich Ludwig (Vienna, Austria) and Jake Anderson (Atlanta, Ga.) winning 8-2 at number three doubles, while Utrilla and sophomore Brady Anderson (Rochester, N.Y.) posted an 8-4 victory at number one. The Kingsmen were victorious at number two as the duo of Parker McBride (Valencia, Calif.) and Aaron Moylan (Falls Church, Va.) downed graduate student Kian Yazdi (London, England) and sophomore Wesley Zhang (Staten Island, N.Y.) 8-4.
Babson graduate student Brooks Green (Mobile, Ala.) was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over McBride at number two singles and Conlin followed with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at number five. Utrilla secured the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jacob de la Paz (Victoria, Australia) at number three.
Yazdi rallied after dropping the first for a 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 win at number four singles, while Weisman overcame a one-set deficit to win 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 at number six for the Beavers.
Babson returns to action on Tuesday when it faces 18th-ranked Sewanee at 12 p.m. EDT in Malibu, Calif.
