Women's Hoops Runs Away from Oneonta in Judy Pearson '85 Tournament Finale, 82-35

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Abby Miller (Millis, Mass.) scored a career-high 20 points to lead three players in double figures as Babson College cruised past visiting SUNY Oneonta, 82-35, in the final game of the Judy Pearson '85 Memorial Tournament on Saturday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium

Babson, which snapped a three-game losing streak, improves to 5-6 on the year. Oneonta drops to 2-7 overall with its fifth straight defeat.

Miller went 7-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-5 from three-point range to go along with five assists for the Beavers. Sophomore Allessia Carlo (Carmel, N.Y.) scored a career-best 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while junior Katelyn Mollica (Foxborough, Mass.) added 13 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals in the victory.

Carlo received the Keep On Keepin' On Award which embodies the traits of teamwork, competitiveness and the tenacity to battle in a positive manner that Judy Pearson showed as a player and in her battle against cancer.

Juniors Nadia Brown (Troy, N.Y.), Sophia Wakin (Delhi, N.Y.) and Alana Batson (Whitesboro, N.Y.) all scored six points for the Red Dragons.

The Green and White started 8-of-9 from beyond the arc and Miller knocked down three early three-pointers to help build a 15-3 lead just over six minutes into the contest. Mollica canned her second triple to make it 18-7 with 1:02 left in the stanza and the Beavers shot 60 percent in the second quarter to forge a 16-point lead at the break.

Carlo opened the second quarter with a jumper, first-year Samantha Reale (North Attleboro, Mass.) scored on back-to-back trips and Carlo added five straight points after another trifecta by Mollica to stretch the margin to 34-17 with 2:21 to go before halftime. Miller closed the period with a reverse layup to make it 38-22 and Babson scored on its first seven possessions of the third quarter to put the game away.

Miller contributed nine points and junior Camilla Silk (Medfield, Mass.) added four during a 17-0 run that pushed the lead to 55-22 just over four minutes into the stanza. Junior Camille Minor (Kingston, Mass.) scored four straight points to make it 68-27 less than three minutes into the fourth and the Green and White took its largest advantage of the game at 80-32 on a free throw by classmate Meghan Goode (Chelmsford, Mass.) with 2:04 remaining.

Babson held the Red Dragons to just 5-of-30 shooting (16.7 percent) in the second half while forcing nine turnovers.

The Beavers shot a season-best 50.8 percent from the floor and outscored the visitors 26-8 in the paint to go along with a 41-27 edge on the glass. They also turned 18 Oneonta turnovers into 29 points.

The Red Dragons shot just 24.5 percent from the floor for the game.

Babson returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Trinity at 2 p.m., while Oneonta opens SUNYAC play at New Paltz on Saturday at 2 p.m.
