WORCESTER, Mass. —The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams set a pair of program records and combined for 2,001.50 points to remain in sixth place after the second day of competition at WPI's Gompei Invitational inside the Sports and Recreation Center.
The Beavers are just 18 points behind fifth-place Roger Williams (2,019.5) in the 12-team meet, which features combined men's and women's scoring. Bryant (5,455.50), the host Engineers (3,747), Bentley (2,475.50) and Springfield (2,334) own the top four spots on the team leader board.
Senior
Vera Belfonti (Orange, Conn.) had an outstanding day for the Beaver women, twice breaking the program record in the 50 butterfly. She qualified fifth in the preliminaries with a record time of 26.60 seconds, lowering the mark of 26.84 set by Elizabeth DeMoine '22 in 2020 and matched by sophomore
Sophia Sznewajs at last year's meet. Belfonti went on to capture fifth place in the finals, bettering her own mark with a time of 26.55 seconds. Sznewajs also made the A final in the event and finished eighth with a season-best time of 26.80.
Junior
Pat Anutarasoti (Bangkok, Thailand) had an impressive day for the Babson men, twice breaking the program record in the 50 breaststroke during his 100 breaststroke races. He opened up with a time of 26.19 seconds in the first 50 yards of the 100 in the prelims to better his own mark of 26.27 set last year against Clark, and lowered it again in the finals with a time of 25.91. He finished runner-up in the 100 breast with a season-best time of 56.35 seconds.
Babson had two of the top five men's divers in the 3-meter event. First-year
David Krol (Grafton, Wis.) took second place with a score of 434.85 points, and senior
Maxwell Leussler (Millis, Mass.) finished fifth with a score of 241.25.
The Beavers posted top-three finishes in both relay events. The group of senior

Josh Kim (La Cañada Flintridge, Calif.) placed third in the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:28.16.
Anutarasoti was one of 11 Babson men to advance to the A finals in an individual event. Sophomore
Rajkaran Padda (Trumbull, Conn.) led a group of four Babson A finalists in the 50 backstroke, finishing runner-up in a season-best time of 25.27 seconds, while sophomore
Terry Li (Los Angeles, Calif.) was sixth in a season-best time of 25.75, first-year
Matthew Choi (Pebble Beach, Calif.) was ninth in 26.51 after a season-best 26.48 in the prelims, and sophomore
Spencer Ernst (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) finished 10th in 27.04 after posting a 26.57 in the morning session.

Nathan Ford (Charlotte, N.C.) brought home fourth place in the A final of the 200 free in a season-best time of 1:43.51, while Albanese finished fourth in the 100 breast in a season-best time of 57.26, followed by senior
Joshua Sellers (Fair Oaks, Calif.) in seventh in a season-best time of 58.14.
Downey-Lamprey and senior
Max Weygandt (Madison, Wis.) were fifth and ninth, respectively, in the 50 fly with season-best times of 23.34 and 23.88, and sophomore
Zackary Cheung (Monterey Park, Calif.) and Kim finished sixth and 10th, respectively, in the 100 back in times of 54.05 and a season-best 54.59.
The Beaver men had eight swimmers compete in the B finals, led by a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 fly, featuring sophomore
Hawken Hammen (East Lyme, Conn.) in first in a season-best 23.81 seconds, classmate
Matthew D'Elia (Old Bridge, N.J.) in second in a season-best 23.83, and Choi in third in 24.30 after posting a season-best 24.23 in the prelims. Ernst finished in seventh in the 200 free in a time of 1:47.86 after posting a season-best 1:47.85 in the prelims; Kim, senior
Shogo Kamei (Tokyo, Japan) and first-year
Chase Stevens (Suffield, Conn.) finished 7-8-9 in the B finals of the 100 breast with season-best times of 1:00.70, 1:00.80 and 1:01.46; and Downey-Lamprey was ninth in the B final of the 100 back in a time of 57.03 seconds.
Four other men qualified for the C finals, as Li took first in the 100 back in a season-best 55.19 seconds, senior

Jason Zeliph (Voorheesville, N.Y.) finished 10th in the 400 IM in a time of 4:40.54 after swimming a season-best 4:38.95 in the prelims.
The Babson women had two individuals advance to the B finals, as senior
Sophia Swain (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) finished runner-up in the 50 fly in a season-best time of 27.15 seconds and first-year
Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) was seventh in the 50 back in a season-best time of 29.3 seconds.
The Beavers finished in the middle of the pack in the two women's relays as Racicot, Sznewajs, junior
Emily Tran (Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore
Catherine Curry (Melrose, Mass.) placed 12th in the 200 free relay in 1:45.67 and the team of Curry, sophomore
Vangella Randell (Holden, Mass.), Belfonti and Sznewajs came in 18th in the 400 medley relay in 4:14.69.

April Kupsky (Bear Creek, Pa.) was seventh in the 200 free in a season-best 2:00.27, and Tran was eighth in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.76 after posting a season-best 1:01.41 in the earlier session.
