Cross Country at the NCAA East Region Championships

WHAT TO KNOW
•   The Babson men's and women's cross country teams travel Hopkinton, N.H., for the first time to compete in one of 10 regional championship meets across the country on Saturday.
•   The men get the day started with an 8k race on the Hopkinton Fairgrounds Course, which will be followed by the women's 6k meet.Â
WHAT'S AT STAKE
•   The men's and women's team winners along with the top seven individuals from non-qualifying teams will earn the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Division III Championships in Newville, Pa., on Saturday, November 18.Â
•   In addition to the automatic team qualifiers, the NCAA will announce its 22 men's and women's at-large teams and top seven individuals from each region on Sunday.Â
2022 EAST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
•   Senior
Anthony Rodriguez and Ryan Wilson '22 M'23 both earned all-region honors to help the Babson men finish seventh for the second year in a row at the NCAA East Region Championship on November 12, 2022, in Brunswick, Maine.Â
•   Rodriguez placed 16th overall with an 8k time of 25:49 and Wilson was 27th with a time of 26:21 for the Beavers, who totaled a program-low 226 points.Â
•   Sophomore
Alexandra Kirkpatrick recorded the top women's 6k time (24:40) and classmate
Chloe Clifford was right behind her with a time of 24:54 as the Babson's women squad placed a program-best 16th with their lowest point total (490) in school history.Â
SCOUTING THE BABSON MEN
•   The Beavers are coming off a third-place finish in the NEWMAC Championship at Smith on October 28.Â
•   Rodriguez recorded the Beavers' top individual finish in NEWMAC history placing third with a time of 25:00, junior Julian Ivarra finished 16th with a time of 26:19 and first-year
Ethan Jina placed 26th on the 8k course with a time of 27:20.Â
•   Sophomore
Max Gregoire (28:46) and first-year
Almond Nickerson IV (28:47) came in 51st and 52nd, respectively, as the Green and White finished with 92 points, its fourth lowest total in the NEWMAC era.Â
•   Rodriguez (24:53), Ivarra (26:14) and Jina (27:27) own the top three average times and have been the team's highest finishers in three 8k meets this season.
SCOUTING THE BABSON WOMEN
•   The Beavers placed 11th at the NEWMAC Championships on the Smith Cross Country Course on October 28.Â
•   Junior
Ali Thomas came in 49th overall with a time of 25:51 on the 6k course, while senior
Alyssa Keith crossed the finish line with a time of 27:30.Â
•   First-year
Isabella Mozillo (27:37) and junior
Eujin Shin (27:52) were separated by just 15 seconds, while sophomore
Avery Butt posted a time of 28:22.Â
•   Thomas owns an average time of 25:27 in two 6k events, Keith (26:06) has broken 26:00 twice in three races and Mozilo is third on the team with an average time of 26:45.Â
TOP COMPETITION
•   The men's race features three nationally-ranked teams highlighted by No. 3 MIT, the defending Division III national champions, No 19 Tufts and No. 34 Bowdoin, both of which recorded top-five finishes at the NESCAC Championship.Â
•   No. 7 MIT is the highest-ranked team in a women's field that also includes, No. 27 WPI and No. 33 Bates.Â
RUNNING INTO THE HISTORY BOOKS
•   Already the only male in program history to earn three All-NEWMAC honors, Rodriguez is looking to make history with all-region accolades and a third straight tip to the NCAA Division III meet with a strong performance on Saturday.Â
•   He has finished 16th in each of the last two seasons at the East Regional Championship, which is the second highest result in men's program history behind only the eighth-place result by Joey Curtis '92 at the New England regional in 1991. Â
