Swimming & Diving at the Gompei Invitational

WHAT TO KNOW
• The Babson men's and women's swimming & diving teams are among nine programs taking part in the three-day Gompei Invitational beginning on Friday morning at WPI.
• The meet features 50 events with a combined men's and women's team score.
SCHEDULE
• Friday: 8:30 a.m. prelims / 5:30 p.m. finals
• Saturday: 8:30 a.m. prelims / 5:30 p.m. finals
• Sunday: 8:30 a.m. prelims / 5 p.m. finals
• Diving trials and finals will be held in between the two swimming sessions on all three days.
GOMPEI INVITATIONAL HISTORY
• Babson will compete in the Gompei Invitational for the seventh time since making its debut in 2016.
• The Beavers, who made a 600-point improvement between 2018 and 2019, moved up five spots from ninth to fourth while totaling over 2,000 more points from 2019 to 2021, including a program record 4,251 points in 2021.
2022 GOMPEI INVITATATIONAL RESULTS
• Babson totaled 3,276 points to finish a seventh out of nine teams at the 2022 Gompei Invitational.
• The Babson men had numerous A finals qualifiers and season-best times, highlighted by junior
Aidan Downey-Lamprey finishing second in the 50 back in 24.80, and senior
Shogo Kamei finishing runner-up in the 50 breaststroke with a 26.85 and senior
Pat Anutarasoti taking third place in the 50 free with a season-best time of 21.38.
• The Babson women were led by senior
April Kupsky, who placed third in three events, the 200 IM with a PR of 2:10.35, the 200 breaststroke in a PR 2:25.98, and the 400 IM with a PR of 4:38.95. Sophomore
Sophia Sznewajs finished seventh in the 50 butterfly with a time of 26.84, matching the school record set by Elizbeth Demoine '22 set back in 2020.
SCOUTING THE BABSON MEN
• The Beavers (3-3) are back in action for the first time since capturing all 13 events a 176-49 victory over Clark back on November 4.
• Five Babson athletes captured two events apiece in the victory, led by senior
Nathan Ford, who won the 50 free and the 100 backstroke. Classmate
Joshua Kim was a double winner in the 400 IM and the 100 breaststroke, Anutarasoti took first in the 100 free and 200 free, sophomore
Spencer Ernst won the 500 and 1000 free, and first-year
David Krol captured both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving.
• Senior
Blake Albanese had a solid meet, swimming on both winning relay teams and placing second in the 400 IM in 4:33.39. Junior
Matthew D'Elia touched the wall first in the 100 fly and finished runner-up in the 1000 free.
SCOUTING THE BABSON WOMEN
• The Beavers (5-3) have split their last two meets, defeating Clark 142-94 back on November 4 in Worcester, and falling to Division I Stonehill on November 11 inside the Morse Pool.
• Kupsky led the Beavers against Stonehill with a victory in the 200 butterfly and second-place finishes in the 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM. Junior
Audrey Daniels had some strong swims with a first-place in the 100 breaststroke and a second place in the 100 fly.
• Other first-place performances for the Beavers were turned in by senior
Vera Belfonti in the 100 butterfly, and sophomore
Jenny Chung led a 1-2-3 finish for the Beavers in the 500 with junior
Kendall Garvey finishing second and sophomore
Emma Chenski placing third. Babson also won the final event, the 200 free relay, by the group of Daniels, sophomores
Catherine Curry and Sznewajs and first-year
Sylvie Racicot.
MEN'S TOP TIMES
• Kim and Anutarasoti have posted the top time for Babson this season in four events each, Kim in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.69), 200 fly (2:02.37, 200 I.M. (1:58.85) and 400 I.M. (4:27.96) and Anutarasoti in the 200 free (1:48.05), 100 breast (59.54), 50 fly (23.43) and 100 fly (51.86).
• Ford has turned in the top time for the Beavers in three events, the 50 free (21.71-relay), 100 free (48.32) and 50 back (25.28).
• Ernst has recorded the team's fastest time in the 500 free (5:00.63) and 1000 free (10:14.07) while sophomore
Zackary Cheung leads the team in the 100 back (54.55) and 200 back (2:01.28). Albanese has posted the top time in the 50 breast (7.86).
• Krol has the top scores in the diving events, scoring 288.80 on 1-meter and 252.95 on 3-meter.
WOMEN'S TOP TIMES
• Kupsky has posted the top time for Babson this season in four events, the 200 breast (2:33.27), the 200 fly (2:15.92), 200 IM (2:15.86) and 400 IM (4:52.65).
• Daniels has turned in the top time for the Beavers in three events, the 50 breast (32.97), 100 breast (1:09.60) and 50 fly (28.00).
• Sznewajs has recorded the team's fastest time in the 100 free (55.91) and 200 free (2:03.30) and junior
Emily Tran leads the team in the 50 back (28.38) and 100 back (1:02.52).
• Six others have the top performance on the team in one event each, Racicot in the 50 free (25.58), Chung in the 500 free (5:36.10), Garvey in the 1000 free (11:30.41), junior
Maggie Cassily in the 200 back (2:17.11), Belfonti in the 100 fly (1:01.46), and first-year
Elina Sung in the 1-meter diving (133.85).
