Daniel Crotty Joins Men's Lacrosse Staff as Assistant Coach

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College head men's lacrosse coach Rocky Batty announced the hiring of Daniel Crotty as a full-time assistant coach on Wednesday afternoon.

Crotty comes to Babson after spending last season as an assistant men's lacrosse coach at Montclair State University in New Jersey. He served as the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for the Red Hawks, and was responsible for on-field coaching, scouting and the implementation of practice and game plans for the Red Hawks, which held 11 of 18 opponents below their season scoring average and finished with a 10-8 record after reaching the Coastal Lacrosse Conference semifinals.

"I'm extremely excited to be working with Dan," commented Batty. "He brings experience coaching at Division III and at Division I, and he's had terrific mentoring at each level. He played demanding lacrosse incredibly well with fantastic coaches at the helm, and has a proven record as a coach who's in tune with players and with program goals.

"Coach Crotty will bring a wealth of knowledge, incredibly high standards, and he'll be a three-headed monster for us: he can coach our face-off play, can take the lead on goalie work on any given day, and will largely be shaping our defensive unit. I'm looking forward to learning from Dan every day, and I'm especially excited for our players."

Prior to his time at Montclair State, Crotty spent 18 months as a graduate assistant men's lacrosse coach at Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y., where he was responsible for recruiting, scouting defenses and face-offs and monitoring academic progress. In addition to his day-to-day responsibilities, Crotty also oversaw in-game substitution and managed the player experience on game day.

"I'm excited to be on board as an assistant men's lacrosse coach at Babson," said Crotty. "Coach Batty has only elevated the program since getting here and possesses a plethora of knowledge about the game. I'm very excited to learn from him. It's also a privilege to work alongside coach (Devin) Newell who shares the same level of passion I have for the game. Babson is a place that wants to see its students-athletes excel both in the classroom and on the field, and I'm excited to be a part of it."

Crotty, who earned his undergraduate degree in finance in 2019 and a master's degree in information systems in 2021 from Stevens Institute of Technology in 2021, was a three-time All-America selection during his career for the Ducks. A two-time captain, he earned an All-America honorable mention nod from the USILA in 2018 and Inside Lacrosse in 2020 before garnering All-America third-team honors from both the USILA and USA Lax Magazine in 2021.

A three-time all-conference performer, Crotty also was selected as the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 after claiming All-Empire 8 accolades in 2017 and 2018. He also garnered USILA Scholar All-America laurels in 2020 and concluded his career with 201 ground balls and 107 caused turnovers in 75 career games while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament on two occasions.
