WHAT TO KNOW
• The Babson men's and women's swimming & diving teams will be on the road for back-to-back meets on Friday and Saturday in Worcester, Mass.
• The Beavers travel to WPI on Friday to compete against the Engineers along with Brandeis and Coast Guard.
• The Green and White will dive into the annual dual meet against Clark on Saturday.
SERIES NOTES
vs. WPI
• The Babson men are 12-12 all-time against the Engineers and recorded just their second victory since 2012 last year.
• The Babson women are 11-14 versus WPI going back to 1997.
vs. Brandeis
• The Babson men are 11-11 against the Judges going back to 1997 and have been victorious in four consecutive meetings.
• The Babson women recorded just two wins over Brandeis since 2013, most recently in 2019.
vs. Coast Guard
• Going back to 2000, the Beavers and Bears have competed in dual meets in all but three seasons (2011, 2014, 2020). Babson's men's last win over Coast Guard was a 126-116 victory in 2001.
vs. Clark
• The Babson men have won 13 straight meets against the Cougars and are 18-7 in dual meet competition versus Clark dating back to 1998.
• The Babson women have won their last four meets against Clark since 2018.
LAST SEASON'S MEN'S RESULTS
• Babson defeated WPI (162-135), Brandeis (163-127) and Clark (219-61) but lost to Coast Guard (200-97).
• Junior
Matthew D'Elia recorded Babson's top individual finish against WPI, Brandeis and Coast Guard, taking first place in the 200-yard butterfly. Senior
Blake Albanese was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke, classmate
Joshua Kim took second in the 400 IM and junior
Pat Anutarasoti added a second-place result in the 50 free.
• Babson won 14 of 16 events against Clark, led by D'Elia (500 free, 50 fly), sophomore
Zackary Cheung (200 free, 200 IM) and junior
Olivier Scholl (I-meter and 3-meter diving). Anutarasoti also set a program record (26.27) in the 50 breaststroke, and other winners included senior
Nathan Ford and sophomore
Rajkaran Padda in the 50 and 100 backstroke, respectively; Albanese in the 100 breast; John Kim in the 100 fly; and sophomore
Spencer Ernst in the 1,000-yard free.
LAST SEASON'S WOMEN'S RESULTS
• Babson lost to WPI (174-116), Brandeis (170-100) and Coast Guard (197-82) but defeated Clark (200-87).
• Junior
April Kupsky recorded top-three finishes in three events against Smith, WPI, Brandeis and Coast Guard, winning the 400 IM and taking second in the 200 breast and third in the 200 fly.
Molly Cox '23 finished third in the 200 backstroke.
• Four different swimmers won multiple events against Clark, highlighted by three victories from sophomore
Sophia Sznewajs, who won the 100 and 200 freestyle and the 50 butterfly. Sophomore
Jenny Chung cruised to victories in both the 500 and 1000 free while junior
Audrey Daniels was first in the 50 and 100 breaststroke. Cox won the 50 free and shared first place with
Madeleine Green '23 in the 50 backstroke. Additionally,
Lindsay Nowak '23 was victorious in the 100 butterfly and Kupsky took first in the 200 IM.
SCOUTING THE BABSON MEN
• The Beavers (1-1) are back in action after a 150-112 loss to Roger Williams in their last outing on October 21.
• Juniors
Pat Anutarasoti (100 breast) and
Matthew D'Elia (200 fly) captured individual events for the Beavers. Kim collected a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 free and 200 breast while Cheung was runner-up in both the 100 backstroke and 100 fly and Ernst was second in both the 500 and 1,000 free.
• The relay team of Ford, Kim, Cheung and Anutarasoti captured the 400 free relay in dramatic fashion, winning by 21 one-hundredths of a second.
SCOUTING THE BABSON WOMEN
• The Beavers (2-0) are coming off an impressive 150-112 victory over Roger Williams on October 21 for their first win over the Rams since 2020.
• Kupsky led the Beavers with three individual victories (200 fly, 200 breast, 200 IM). Juniors
Audrey Daniels (100 free) and
Emily Tran (100 back) and first-year
Sylvie Racicot (50 free) all captured one individual event each and swam on both winning relay teams.
• Senior
Vera Belfonti (100 fly) and junior
Kendall Garvey (1000 free) were also individual winners for the Beavers.
DIVER OF THE WEEK
• Rookie
David Kros was rewarded for his strong performance in his collegiate debut last month, earning the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Diver of the Week recognition.
• Krol opened the season with a pair of first-place finishes in Babson's win over Regis on October 14. He posted a six-dive score of 288.80 on the 1-meter board and 252.95 in the 3-meter event to earn 18 points for the Beavers.
POSITION IN THE POLLS
• The Babson men, who placed third at the 2023 NEWMAC Championships, its best finish and highest point total in two decades, were picked to finish third this year's conference preseason coaches' poll.
• Babson's women, who have recorded four straight seventh-place finishes and recorded their second highest point total in school history last year, were picked to finish seventh this year by the league's coaches.
UP NEXT
• The Beavers' women's squad will be home next Saturday for a dual meet against Stonehill at 12 p.m. inside Morse Pool, and both Babson teams will compete in the annual Gompei Invitational at WPI on December 1-3.
