Women's Soccer Rallies Past WPI, 3-2

WORCESTER, Mass.—Senior Natalie Knauf (Point Pleasant, N.J.) scored the go-ahead goal in the 81st minute to help visiting Babson College come from behind to defeat WPI, 3-2, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Wednesday night at H. Carr Field.

With the win, Babson improves to 5-3-2 overall and 3-0-1 in league play, while WPI slips to 6-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the NEWMAC.

Senior Morgan Krauss (Belmont, Mass.) had a goal and junior Jordyn Ferrantino (Millis, Mass.), classmate Laura Lukowicz (Coventry, R.I.) and first-year Janiya Ocampo (Pawtucket, R.I.) all contributed an assist for the Beavers. Fellow rookie Callahan Cottone (Medway, Mass.) made six saves in the victory.

Junior Madisyn Bagby (Aurora, Colo.) registered a goal and an assist and classmate Olivia Toolin (Bedford, N.H.) scored once for the Engineers. Senior goalkeeper Lili Hellerman (Ashland, Mass.) turned away three shots in the loss.

The Green and White took advantage of a WPI miscue to go in front just 4:38 into the contest as Ferrantino's cross from the left wing was headed in for an own goal. Cottone pushed aside a 30-yard free kick by Bagby in the 50th minute but the Engineers were awarded a penalty kick after a handball was called following the ensuing corner and Bagby picked out the upper right corner tie the game.

The hosts took then took the lead in the 54th minute on Toolin's first goal of the year following a restart. She made a run across the top of the box, collected a pass from Bagby and cut a left-footed shot back inside the right post for a 2-1 advantage.

The Beavers leveled the match in the 68th minute thanks to Krauss' fourth marker of the season. Ocampo's shot following Knauf's service from the left wing was blocked but Krauss settled the loose ball and her shot deflected off the right post and in to make it 2-2.

The Green and White went in front for good with 9:43 remaining on Knauf's first goal of the season. Following a long goal kick by Lukowicz, Ferrantino played a ball over the WPI back line and Knauf drilled a shot past Hellerman, who came charging off her line, from the top of the box.

The Beavers finished with a 14-10 edge in shots and held a slim 5-3 advantage in corner kicks on the night.

Babson returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Mount Holyoke at 1 p.m., while WPI hosts Clark on Friday at 7 p.m.
