Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Hill (Four Goals) and Marsh (Two Goals) Lead No. 2 Field Hockey Past Mount Holyoke, 9-0

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.— Graduate student Jackie Hill (Franklin, N.H.) scored a career-high four goals and junior Camille Marsh (Englewood, Colo.) added a pair of scores as No. 2 Babson College wrapped up the regular season with a 9-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on the MHC Turf.

With the victory, the Beavers posted their 12th straight victory and improved to 18-1 overall and 9-0 in the NEWMAC while the Lyons dropped their sixth game in a row and finish up the season at 8-11 overall and 1-8 in conference play. Babson wrapped up its eighth straight conference unbeaten regular season with its 59th consecutive conference victory and will be the top seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament.

Hill added her four goals to her three-goal performance on Tuesday, while Marsh scored at least two goals for the fifth time this season. Junior Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.) tallied a goal and an assist, and junior Berit Sharrow (Denver, Colo.) and sophomore Laney Reed (West Chester, Pa.) notched one goal apiece. Junior Bayla Furmanek (State College, Pa.) made three saves to register her ninth shutout of the season.

Mount Holyoke junior Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) had a very busy day in goal, making a career-high 25 saves in just 45 minutes between the pipes, including a stop on a Babson penalty stroke.

Marsh needed just 65 seconds of the game to put the Beavers on the board, hammering a loose ball from about eight yards out into the right corner of the goal. Hill doubled the Babson lead in the 11th minute, burying a rebound for her first goal of the game.

The Green and White pulled away with four goals in the final six-plus minutes of the second quarter. Reed converted a rebound into a goal in the 24h minute, Evans knocked in a rebound two minutes later, Hill tucked in a shot near the left post on a 2-on-1 with Evans in the 27th minute, and Hill finished off her hat trick on a rebound with 25 seconds remaining in the half.

Hill opened the second half with her fourth of the game and 11th of the season 24 seconds into the second half, bunting the ball out of mid-air for a goal. Sharrow put in her own rebound after a penalty corner in the 44th minute and Marsh rounded out the scoring in the 49th minute, firing a long-range shot from the top of the circle inside the left post.

Babson finished with a 54-7 margin in shots (39-3 in shots on goal) and had a 14-4 advantage in penalty corners.

The Green and White will have a first-round bye in next week's NEWMAC Tournament and will host a semifinal game on Thursday at MacDowell Field, where they are 10-0 this season.
