Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 2 Field Hockey Storms Past UNE, 5-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine — Graduate student Jackie Hill (Franklin, N.H.) scored three goals for her first career hat trick and the stingy defense of No. 2 Babson College didn't concede a shot on goal on the way to shutting out the University of New England, 5-0, in non-conference field hockey action Tuesday evening at Blue Bolt Field.

With the victory, the Beavers extended their winning streak to 11 games and improve to 17-1 overall while the Nor'easters had a five-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 8-9 overall.

Graduate student Meara Hanyon (Brodheadsville, N.Y.) and junior Camille Marsh (Englewood, Colo.) also scored for the Beavers. Junior Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.) collected a pair of assists and graduate student Sinead Walsh (Port Elizabeth, South Africa) and sophomore Laney Reed (West Chester, Pa.) added one assist each.

Junior Dawn DeWeese-Moss (Pittsfield, Maine) turned in a strong performance in the Nor'easters' goal, finishing with 14 saves.

Hill put the Beavers on the board in the fourth minute of the game, converting a pass from Evans along the right end line for her first goal of the game. Hill doubled the Beaver lead with just 1:17 left in the second quarter, taking a feed from Walsh on the left side and spinning to her left before depositing a shot into the left side of the goal.

The Green and White extended their lead to three goals a minute into the third quarter. Evans delivered a pass to Hanyon just inside the top of the circle and she fired a shot through traffic that deflected off a Nor'easter defender and into the goal for Hanyon's fourth of the season.

Hill finished off her hat trick late in the third frame, picking up the ball after her first shot was blocked by a defender and flipping it past the goalie as the lead swelled to 4-0. Marsh finished off the scoring with a little over a minute remaining in the game, taking a pass in transition from Reed and blasting a shot from just inside the top of the circle inside the right post.

Babson dominated field possession and outshot the hosts 29-1, including 19-0 in shots on goal. The visitors took 11 of the game's 12 penalty corners.

Both teams wrap up the regular season on Saturday with conference play as Babson travels to Mount Holyoke for a 12 p.m. New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup and UNE visits Endicott for a 1 p.m. Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) encounter.
