Women's Volleyball Sweeps Salve Regina, Pushes Winning Streak to 16

NEWPORT, R.I.—Senior Lulu McShane (Glencoe, Ill.) led a balanced attack with eight kills and sophomore Roz Cabuena (Kailua, Hawaii) finished with a match-high 24 digs to help visiting Babson College record a three-set sweep (25-16, 25-16, 25-19) of Salve Regina University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's volleyball action on Saturday afternoon inside the Rodgers Recreation Center.

With its 16th consecutive victory, Babson is now 19-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play. Salve Regina has dropped four consecutive matches to slip to 10-10 overall and 0-7 in the NEWMAC.

Sophomore Isabella Allen (Williamsville, N.Y.) had seven kills, first-year Hailey Fouche (Montclair, N.J.) totaled six kills and junior Lauren Gips (Winter Park, Fla.) finished with six kills, six blocks and three service aces to lead the Beavers. Senior Ruby Reich (Atlanta, Ga.) tied for match-high honors with 13 assists, while sophomore Sophia Shaw (Novato, Calif.) chipped in with seven digs in the win.

Senior Brighton Solheim (Phoenix, Ariz.) registered 10 kills and 10 digs and junior Siena DeCicco (Severna Park, Md.) contributed 13 assists and 13 digs to pace the Seahawks.

Leading 7-6 in game one, the Green and White got three kills from Allen and two kills and an ace from Gips as part of a 10-1 run to build a commanding 17-7 lead to take a one-set advantage. The Beavers raced out to a 7-2 lead in the second sparked by consecutive aces from Cabuena and got kills from five players while taking advantage of nine attack errors by Salve Regina to stretch the margin to as many as 14 in the frame.

The third set featured six ties and three early lead changes before Babson took control. Up 15-12, first-year Natalie Molendyk (Danville, Calif.) started a four-point run with a kill and Allen sandwiched another kill inside a pair of aces by Gips to extend the lead to 19-12. Salve Regina got as close as five with back-to-back points but Allen stopped the momentum with a kill and first-year Nora Whitehurst (Decatur, Ga.) followed with a block as the Beavers built an eight-point lead on the way to closing out the match.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as Babson travels to Clark, while Salve Regina visits Coast Guard.
