BRUNSWICK, Maine—The Babson College women's cross country team finished in a solid fifth place among 11 schools Saturday at the Bowdoin College Invitational.
Babson finished with a team score of 151, behind Tufts (22), Bowdoin (59), Suffolk (70) and Colby (131), and comfortably ahead of sixth-place Clark (167).
First-year Alexandra Kirkpatrick (Middleborough, Mass.) was the top Babson finisher for the second time this season, placing 24th among 105 competitors in a time of 24:38 on the 6k course. Classmate Chloe Clifford (Marshfield, Mass.) was 34th in a time of 25:02.
Senior Nicole Johns (Peabody, Mass.) and first-year Ali Thomas (Vero Beach, Fla.) came along in 49th and 52nd place, respectively, in times of 25:52 and 25:56. First-year Avery Butt (Orange, Conn.) was the fifth Beaver to cross the line in 28:36.
Babson is idle for three weeks before returning to action on October 15 at the Connecticut College Invitational.
MEET NOTES
• The Beavers have had the four first-year athletes among their top five finishers in all three races this season.
• Saturday's race was the team's first on a 6k course, following a two-mile and a 5k in the first two races.
• The teams got a first look at the Bowdoin course which will be the site of the NCAA East Regional championships on November 12.
