Men's Lacrosse Handles UMass Boston, 17-11

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Chi Chi Price (Hingham, Mass.) finished with career highs of five goals and seven points to help lead Babson College to a 17-11 win over visiting UMass Boston in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at MacDowell Field.

With the win, Babson improves to 5-4 on the year, while UMass Boston dips to 8-2 overall.

First-year Colt Bordonaro (Portland, Ore.) scored three times and sophomores Grey Sunderland (Bellevue, Wash.) and Topher Bower (Chicago, Ill.) both finished with two goals for the Beavers. Sunderland won 15-of-27 face-offs, sophomore Brendan Maher (Melrose, Mass.) contributed season highs of six ground balls and four caused turnovers, and Price and senior Drew Thomas (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) each added three caused turnovers in the win.

Senior Mac Mowat (Bellevue, Wash.) made a season-high 16 saves, while junior Will Parducci (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) matched his career high with five saves for the Green and White.

Sophomore Jacob Banks (Westminster, Mass.) tied for game-high honors with five goals, all in the fourth quarter, and senior Gavin Admirand (Marshfield, Mass.) contributed two goals, two assists and a game-high seven ground balls to lead the Beacons. Graduate student Jack Dobrzynski (West Greenwich, R.I.) won 13-of-22 face-offs and also scooped up seven ground balls, while junior Trevor Koppy (Attleborough, Mass.) and sophomore Christian Meinhold (Boxborough, Mass.) combined to make 17 saves in the loss.

Babson jumped out to a 3-0 first-quarter lead and then scored three times in 15 seconds early in the second to double its advantage. Bordonaro converted a man-up chance and Sunderland won back-to-back face-offs and scored eight seconds apart to make it 6-0 at the 11:16 mark.

Junior Jason McNeany (North Attleborough, Mass.) scored at 7:56 to cut the UMass Boston deficit to 7-2 but the Beavers answered with three goals in 69 seconds capped by first-year Riley Shaw's (Duluth, Ga.) first collegiate tally to extend the margin to 10-3 just over two minutes before halftime. Bordonaro scored his second man-up goal of the night, Price tallied twice and first-year Emmett Martin (Milton, Mass.) notched his first career goal as the Green and White outscored the Beacons 4-1 in the third quarter to take its biggest lead of the night at 14-4 with 1:45 remaining in the stanza.

Sophomore Max Iannone (Westport, Conn.) converted a feed from Mowat in transition for his first collegiate at 10:53 of the fourth and Bower scored 49 seconds later to make it 16-6. Banks scored three of his five goals over the final 5:08 as UMass Boston closed the contest with a 5-1 run for the final margin.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson travels to No. 18 Williams at 1 p.m., while the Beacons visit Mass. Maritime at 7 p.m.

GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are 15-3 all-time against UMass Boston and Wednesday's matchup was the first between the programs since 2012.
• Babson's 17 goals are a season high and its most since scoring 21 in a win over Emerson on April 17, 2021.
• The Beavers, who finished with 13 caused turnovers on Wednesday, are now 3-0 on the year when forcing at least 10 miscues.
• Price has recorded four straight multi-goal games and has produced nine goals and four assists for 13 points over the last two contests.
