SERIES HISTORY
• Babson and UMass Boston will meet for the first time since 2012 and just the third time since 2003 on Wednesday in a series that dates back to 1978.
• The Beavers are 14-3 all-time against the Beacons and have won the last six and 13 of the last 14 matchups between the teams.
• UMass Boston's last win in the series was a 7-6 victory on April 29, 1999 in Babson Park.
LAST MEETING
• Thirteen different players scored goals as the Beavers coasted to a 19-2 victory over visiting UMass Boston at MacDowell Field on April 12, 2012.
• Alex Patinkin '13 led all players with two goals and two assists for four points for the Beavers, while Jamie Schmidt '12, Alex Packer '14, Brad Bero, Aaron Rocha and Mauricio Palazzi '14 also added two goals in the win.
• Christian Cattaruzza '15 totaled six ground balls and six caused turnovers, Ben Jette '13 picked up six ground balls, and Phil Russo '15 had recorded 20 faceoff wins and 15 ground balls.
• UMass Boston received 19 saves from goalie Henry Bristol as well as four caused turnovers by Ryan Mahon.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (4-4) is looking to stop a two-game losing streak after losses to No. 11 Bowdoin and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Springfield last week at MacDowell Field.
• Sophomore Topher Bower led the Beavers with a career-high seven points on four goals and three assists against Springfield while junior Chi Chi Price added a career-best six points on four goals and two assists. Senior Drew Thomas recorded a career-high five caused turnovers and sophomore Grey Sunderland won 17 of 32 face-offs and picked up a career-high 11 ground balls.
• Price (13-6-19), Bower (9-8-17), graduate student Lee Sipes (12-4-16), and junior Matt Stucchi (11-5-16) lead the team in scoring. Sunderland has won 85-of-149 face-offs and leads the team with 47 ground balls. Thomas (15 caused turnovers, 16 GB), junior Kyle Sanborn (9 CT, 20 GB) and sophomore Brendan Maher (9 CT, 12 GB) are the top long-pole defenders.
• Senior Mac Mowat (.564 sv. pct., 8.30 GAA) ranks 28th in Division III in goals against average.
SCOUTING THE BEACONS
• UMass Boston (8-1), which won its first seven games this spring before a 17-11 loss at MIT last week, is coming off a 30-9 drubbing of Salem State on Saturday.
• Senior Zach Mann scored six goals as UMB shattered season-bests in every offensive category in the win. Classmate Michael Claflin added five goals and three assists and senior Gavin Admirand was good for three goals and seven assists.
• The Beacons set new season highs in goals (30), assists (25), ground balls (67), and caused turnovers (26).
• Admirand (30-17-47) and Claflin (26-19-45) are the top scorers for the Beacons. Graduate student Jack Dobrzynski (85-158) and junior Jason McNeany (67-122) have both won more than 50 percent of their faceoffs, and junior Patrick Carey (13 CT) and sophomore Justin McCullough (10 CT) are top defenders.
• Junior Trevor Koppy (7-0) has a 9.53 goals against average and a .608 save percentage.
BABSON IN THE NCAA RANKINGS
• Babson ranks 16th out of 244 schools in Division III in clearing percentage (.878).
• The Green and White rank 61st in scoring defense (9.25 goals per game).
BEAVER BITES
• Stucchi has scored at least one point in all eight games this spring and has five multi-point outings. Price has a seven-game point streak going with five multi-point performances.
• Babson was successful on 39-of-42 clearing opportunities in its past two games and has converted 92.0 percent of its clears (103-for-112) over the last five games.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Green and White are 4-1 this spring and have won 11 of their last 13 dating back to the start of the 2019 season when winning more face-offs than its opponents.
• Babson is also 4-1 this season when holding the opponent to eight goals or fewer, and 23-3 going back to the start of 2018.
