SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 27-9 all-time against Wheaton in a series that dates back to 1992.
• The Beavers have dominated the series as of late with 12 victories in the last 13 meetings between the teams dating back to 2011.
• Each of Babson's last seven victories since 2015 have come by at least six goals.
LAST MEETING
• Senior Ryan Donovan finished with four goals and one assist and sophomore Grey Sunderland won 14-of-19 face-offs and scooped up a game-high eight ground balls as visiting Babson rolled to a 20-2 win at Wheaton on April 10, 2021 at Nordin Field.
• Mason O'Hanlon '21 had three goals and one assist, while graduate student Lee Sipes, junior Wills Jordan and sophomore Connor Karsh all scored twice for the Beavers. Sean Smith '21G picked up five ground balls and was one of three players to record two assists, Will Messner '21 recorded two assists and two caused turnovers, and seniors Mac Mowat and Austin O'Brien combined to make four saves in the win.
• Senior Alec Morin and junior Robert Sullivan each had a goal for the Lyons. Sophomore Jacob Wharton picked up four ground balls and led all players with three caused turnovers, while junior Cory Bannon made 12 of Wheaton's 13 saves over the first 39 minutes.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (6-7, 2-2 NEWMAC) has dropped three of its last four, all to nationally-ranked teams, including Tuesday's 16-9 setback to No. 9/8 Tufts. The lone win in the last four outings was a 16-8 NEWMAC victory over Emerson last Saturday at MacDowell Field.
• Senior Peter Chisholm finished with two goals and three assists for a season-high five points in the loss to Tufts, while junior Matt Stucchi and sophomore Jacob Tauss both scored twice to lead the Beavers. Sunderland won 16-of-28 face-offs and scooped up a game-high nine ground balls, junior Hayden Bean recorded a season-high five caused turnovers and Mowat matched his season high with 16 saves in the loss.
• Junior Chi Chi Price (27-8-35), sophomore Topher Bower (13-13-26), Stucchi (15-9-24) and Sipes (15-7-22) are the team scoring leaders. Sunderland has won 151-of-278 face-offs and leads the team with 85 ground balls.
• Senior Drew Thomas (24 caused turnovers, 27 GB), junior Kyle Sanborn (14 CT, 33 GB) and sophomore Brendan Maher (16 CT, 28 GB) are the top long-pole defenders. Mowat (.544 sv. pct., 10.60 GAA) has started 12 of Babson's 13 games in goal.
SCOUTING THE LYONS
• Wheaton (9-4, 1-4 NEWMAC) is coming off a 9-7 NEWMAC victory last Saturday at Clark, snapping a two-game losing skid with its first conference win of the season.
• Senior Lou Mainella netted three goals in the win while first-year Mike McLaughin and junior Shane Ross each tallied a pair of markers. McLaughlin also recorded a ground balls and a caused turnover, while Ross picked up a pair of ground balls. Senior Alex Berg scored a goal, picked up four ground balls and caused a turnover, and first-year goalie John Drew made 15 saves in the victory.
• Mainella (17-18-35) leads the Lyons in scoring, while Ross (24-2-26) is the goal-scoring leader. Wheaton also gets offensive production out of junior Max Cooper (11-9-20), Morin (18-2-20), and Sullivan (19-1-20). Junior Dayton Kozlowski is the top face-off man, winning 71-of-189 at the X.
• Wharton leads the NEWMAC with 40 caused turnovers and ranks second on the team with 39 ground balls, while Berg has collected a team-high 48 ground balls. First-year John Drew (5-4, .590 sv. pct., 10.13 GAA) leads the NEWMAC in save percentage and Bannon (4-0, .500 sv. pct., 7.30 GAA) tops the league in goals against average.
A LOOK AT THE NEWMAC
• MIT (4-0) sits atop the standings with two games to play with Coast Guard (3-1) and Springfield (3-1) right behind.
• Babson (2-2) is alone in fourth place with Emerson (1-3), Wheaton (1-4) and Clark (1-4) battling for fifth place and the final playoff spot.
BEAVER BITES
• Stucchi has scored at least one point in all 13 games this spring and now has seven multi-point outings on the year, while Karsh has at least one goal in five consecutive games.
• Babson has seen 16 different players score at least two goals this season, and 21 different players score at least once.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Babson is 6-0 this spring when leading after three quarters and have won 12 in a row going back to the start of last season.
• The Green and White are 5-1 this spring when holding the opponents to eight goals or fewer, and 24-3 since the start of the 2018 campaign.
