SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 4-12 all-time against Tufts in a series that dates back to 1979.
• Last year's meeting between the two schools was the first since 2013 and just the fifth over the last two decades.
LAST MEETING
• Senior goalkeeper Mac Mowat made a career-high 29 saves as 20th-ranked Babson suffered a 16-7 loss to No. 1/1 Tufts in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on May 15, 2021 at Growney Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.
• Sean Smith '21G and junior Chi Chi Price both scored twice for the Beavers. Will Messner '21 dished out two assists, Jack Tague '21 led all players with three caused turnovers and sophomore Grey Sunderland won 12-of-25 face-offs and scooped up a game-high 10 ground balls.
• Senior Cam Kelleher scored four times, classmate Mac Bredahl finished with two goals and four assists and Max Waldbaum '21 added two goals and three assists for the Jumbos, who were held to their lowest scoring output of the season against a Division III opponent. Joe Theuer '21 finished with 16 saves in the victory.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (6-6, 2-2 NEWMAC) is coming off a 16-8 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference victory over Emerson on Senior Day Saturday at MacDowell Field.
• Price matched his career high with five goals and Babson capitalized on a 7-0 first quarter to record the win. The Beavers also got three goals apiece from sophomore Connor Karsh and first-year Colt Bordonaro, and junior Matt Stucchi and sophomore Topher Bower collected three assists each.
• Sunderland won 15 of 27 face-offs and picked up a career-high 14 ground balls, senior Drew Thomas recorded four caused turnovers and two ground balls, and Mowat made 10 saves in goal in the victory.
• Price (26-8-34), Bower (13-13-26), Stucchi (13-9-22) and graduate student Lee Sipes (14-7-21) lead the team in scoring. Sunderland has won 135-of-250 face-offs and tops the team with 76 ground balls. Thomas (24 caused turnovers, 26 GB), junior Kyle Sanborn (13 CT, 33 GB) and sophomore Brendan Maher (16 CT, 24 GB) are the top long-pole defenders, while Mowat (.545 sv. pct., 10.21 GAA) has started 11 of Babson's 12 games in goal.
SCOUTING THE JUMBOS
• Tufts (10-2, 7-1 NESCAC), which is ranked ninth in the USILA and eighth in the Inside Lacrosse Division III polls, brings a four-game winning streak to Babson after Saturday's 17-14 win over N0. 15/12 Wesleyan. The Jumbos' only losses were to No. 4 Union and No. 19 Middlebury.
• Down 10-6 at the half, Tufts scored seven goals in the third quarter to tie the game and then out-scored Wesleyan 4-1 in the fourth for the win. Senior Camden Kelleher finished with four goals and three assists, classmate Mac Bredahl accumulated three and two and senior Duke Alf scored a career-high four goals to lead the Jumbos offensively, while junior Jack Boyden added two goals and four assists.
• Sophomore Conner Garzone made 16 saves, first-year Parker Merril won 25 of 34 draws and senior Matthew Lane caused three turnovers for the Jumbos while picking up two ground balls.
• Bredahl (43-31-74), Boyden (42-29-71) and Kelleher (31-19-50) are leading scorers for Tufts, while Merril has won 183 of 277 face-offs and collected 108 ground balls. Junior Kyle Adelmann had recorded 21 caused turnovers and 44 ground balls. Garzone (.514 sv. pct., 13.63 GAA) has started all 12 of Tufts' games in goal.
BABSON VS. THE NESCAC
• Tuesday's game is Babson's fifth this season against teams from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).
• The Beavers are 1-3 in the previous four with a win over Bates and losses to Bowdoin, Williams and Middlebury. Six NESCAC schools are ranked in the Division III Top 20.
BEAVER BITES
• Stucchi has scored at least one point in all 12 games this spring and has six multi-point outings. Price has at least one point in 10 of his last 11 games with nine multi-point performances.
• Babson has seen 16 different players score at least two goals this season, and 21 different players score at least once.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Babson is 6-0 this spring when leading after three quarters and have won 12 in a row going back to the start of last season.
• The Green and White are 5-1 this spring when holding the opponents to eight goals or fewer, and 24-3 since the start of the 2018 campaign.
