SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 5-4 all-time against Bates in a series that dates back to 1979.
• The teams will meet for the fifth time in the last six seasons after going nearly three decades without matching up between 1991-2016.
• Four of the last five games between the Beavers and Bobcats have been decided by two goals or less, which includes back-to-back overtime finishes in 2019 and 2020.
LAST MEETING
• Owen Allen '20 scored with 1:05 left in overtime to lift Babson to a 12-11 win over Bates on February 26, 2020, in Lewiston, Maine.
• Allen and Mason O'Hanlon '21 both scored three times, Matthew MacCune '20 added two goals and three assists, and Christopher Aranalde '20 made two of his 12 saves in the extra session for the Beavers, who picked up their first victory in the series since 1990.
• Jack Scribner finished with four goals for the Bobcats, who trailed 11-9 with less than four minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (1-0) opened the season with a 12-6 win at Roger Williams on Saturday.
• Graduate student Lee Sipes and sophomore Jacob Tauss both scored three times and classmate Grey Sunderland won 14-of-18 face-offs and led all players with eight ground balls for the Beavers, who built an 8-1 lead less than five minutes into the third quarter.
• Senior goaltender Mac Mowat, who made four first-half saves in the opener, ranked 10th in Division III with a .634 save percentage and 17th in goals against average (7.80) in six starts in 2021.
• Babson returns 34 players after finishing 5-1 overall, winning the program's first NEWMAC Tournament championship and returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1979 last spring.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
• Bates (0-0) returns 22 juniors and seniors from a team that went 1-3 while playing an abbreviated schedule in 2021.
• The Bobcats return their top four scorers as the trio of Oliver Allen (7-6-13), Will Masterson (7-2-9) and Will Schinabeck (6-1-7) combined for 20 goals, while Jack Lousararian (2-5-7) led the team in assists.
• Alex Neville and John Farrell both recorded three caused turnovers and Jackson Williams and Peter Ackley combined to win 15-of-29 face-offs last spring.
• Jack FitzSimmons and Spencer Wood combined to post a 17.35 goals against average and a .468 save percentage in 2021.
BALANCED BEAVERS
• Six different players recorded multiple points in Saturday's victory at Roger Williams.
• Sophomore Topher Bower finished with two goals and one assist, junior transfer Matt Stucchi scored twice, sophomore Alex Fairman had a goal and two assists and senior Peter Chisholm scored once and added a helper.
REGIONAL RECOGNITION
• In addition to coming in fourth in the NEILA preseason all-region poll behind Tufts, Williams and Wesleyan, three members of the program were named to the Division III All-New England preseason team.
• Sunderland was selected as a second-team face-off specialist, junior Chi Chi Price was picked as a second-team midfielder, and senior Drew Thomas who had four ground balls and two caused turnovers in Saturday's opener, was a third-team selection on defense.
OLD FRIENDS REUNITED
• Fourth-year Babson head coach Rocky Batty will be reunited with fellow Brown University alum and Bates head coach Peter Lasagna on Wednesday. A former defenseman, Batty played for Lasagna, who served as an assistant for the Bears, during his time at Brown.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers have won 16 consecutive games when allowing eight goals or fewer going back to the start of the 2018-19 campaign.
• Babson has won its last six contests and is 10-3 under Batty when recording 36 ground balls or more.
• The Green and White has been victorious in each of its last seven games when winning at least 50 percent of the face-offs.
