Women's Cross Country Finishes Ninth at NEWMAC Championship

ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass.—The Babson College women's cross country team placed ninth at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Sunday at Highland Park's Mark Coogan Course.

The Beavers totaled 257 points to finish ahead of 10th-place Clark (265 points) and just 15 points behind eighth-place Wheaton. No. 14 MIT had four of the top eight runners and claimed its 15th straight title with 30 points. No. 27 Smith came in second with 62 points, while Coast Guard (97), WPI (113) and Wellesley (145) finished third through fifth.

First-year Chloe Clifford (Marshfield, Mass.) was Babson's top finisher with a season-best time of 24:42 on the 6k course that was good for 46th place. Fellow rookie Alexandra Kirkpatrick (Middleborough, Mass.) came in 58th overall with a time of 25:12 and senior Nicole Johns (Peabody, Mass.) crossed the finish line with a career-best time of 25:34 to place 71st.

Sophomore Angela Hagstrom (Portsmouth, N.H.) posted a time of 26:26 in her season debut, while classmate Ali Thomas (Vero Beach, Fla.) was just three seconds behind her with a time a time of 26:29.

The Beavers will conclude their season on Saturday, November 12, when they travel to Brunswick, Maine, to compete in the East Region Championship at Bowdoin.
