Game Preview: Men's Lacrosse at Wheaton

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 26-9 all-time against Wheaton in a series that dates back to 1992.
• The Beavers have dominated the series as of late with 11 victories in the last 12 meetings between the teams dating back to 2011.
• Each of Babson's last six victories since 2015 have come by at least six goals.

LAST MEETING
• Niall Dillon '19 finished with four goals and two assists and Owen Allen '20 added three goals and one assist to help the Beavers defeat Wheaton, 11-4, on April 17, 2019, in Babson Park.
• Junior Jack Gregory won 11-of-15 faceoffs over the final three quarters and Christopher Aranalde '20 made 10 saves for the Beavers, who pulled away with five fourth-quarter tallies.
• CJ Leighton scored a pair of goals for the Lyons, who got 15 saves from Chandler Miller.

SCOUTING THE LYONS
• Wheaton (0-0) brings back 31 players from a team that won four of its first six games to begin the 2020 campaign.
• The Lyons return nearly all of their scoring, highlighted by the duo of junior Lou Mainella (11-11-22) and senior Mike Abramo (13-5-18), who combined for six man-up goals and both finished with multiple points in all six contests.
• Junior Alec Morin (10-0-10) scored nine times over the team's final three games, senior Troy Sliney won 75.6 percent of his faceoffs while scooping up 62 ground balls, and junior Mike Conti led the defense with eight caused turnovers.
• Senior Neal Canastra is the most experienced goalie on the team, having allowed 12 goals while stopping 14 shots in 57 minutes over nine career appearances.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (0-0) returns 31 players from a team that went 3-3 in 2020.
• The Beavers bring back five of their top seven scorers, highlighted by sophomore Chi Chi Price (10-1-11), who was second on the team in goals, and senior Ethan Carpenter (4-7-11), who was second on the team in assists.
• Senior Lee Sipes (7-2-9) led the team with three man-up tallies and scooped up 15 ground balls, while the trio of seniors John Antaya and Jack Tague and junior Drew Thomas combined to scoop up 49 ground balls in addition to causing 29 turnovers last spring.
• Senior Mac Mowat, who went 3-0 with a 7.68 goals against average and a .605 save percentage as a first-year in 2018, made one save in five minutes of action last spring.

WHAT TO KNOW FOR 2021
• After missing out on the first two weeks of competition due to COVID protocols, the Green and White will play a three-game conference schedule with the top four teams advancing to the NEWMAC Tournament.
• Coast Guard defeated Springfield, 14-13, on March 27, while the Beavers, Lyons and Clark are all set to play their first games of the season on Saturday.
• The winner of the conference tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.

NUMBERS GAME
• Babson generated more shots than its opponents six times in eight NEWMAC games and committed fewer turnovers in seven of eight contests in 2019.
• The Beavers led the conference in goals against average (7.86), caused turnovers per game (9.7) and man-up goals (11).

TRENDS TO WATCH
• Sipes was the lone Beaver to score at least one goal in all six games last season.
• Price and senior Mason O'Hanlon both recorded three multi-goal games.
• Antaya and Thomas each finished with multiple caused turnovers four times in six contests in 2020.

NUMBER TO KNOW
• Babson will welcome Emerson to MacDowell Field for its home opener on April 17.
