Box Score LEWISTON, Maine—Bates College scored six consecutive goals over the span of 11 minutes midway through the first half and defeated visiting Babson College, 14-10, in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at Garcelon Field.
Junior Georgia Salvatore (Westwood, Mass.) recorded four goals and one assist and sophomore Sophia McCann (Duxbury, Mass.) added a career-high three goals to go along with one assist for the Beavers. First-year Erin Jayne (Merrimac, Mass.) chipped in with two goals and two assists, classmate Claudia Dodge (Pelham, N.Y.) tied for game-high honors with six ground balls and senior Valerie Quinlan (Norwood, Mass.) led all players with seven draw controls in the loss.
Junior goalie Cricket Fligor (Weston, Mass.) recorded six saves for the Green and White.
First-year Chloe Robinson (North Salem, N.Y.) and sophomore Jordyn Tveter (Topsfield, Mass.) scored three goals apiece and junior Margaret Smith (Wilton, Conn.) added two goals and two assists to pace the Bobcats. Tveter also won six draws, senior Liv Sandford (Kennebunk, Maine) finished with six ground balls and three caused turnovers, and junior Rachael Deptula (Durham, N.H.) made seven of her eight saves in the first half.
Jayne scored twice and Salvatore added a free-position tally to give Babson (1-1) a 3-2 lead less than eight minutes into the contest. Robinson tied it 94 seconds later igniting a six-goal run that helped Bates (1-1) build an 8-3 advantage on a free-position score by Sandford with 10:30 to go in the first half.
Salvatore scored twice to cut the Beavers' deficit to 9-5 at halftime and followed up two straight goals by McCann with a free-position strike to pull the Green and White within 10-8 with 17:12 to go in the second half. McCann answered a goal by Smith to keep Babson within 11-9 at the 9:40 mark, but Tveter answered two minutes later to spark a three-goal spurt that pushed the Bobcats lead to 14-9 with 4:05 to play.
Bates outshot Babson 29-24 and finished with a 15-11 edge in ground balls. The Beavers held a 21-20 ground ball advantage but converted just 5-of-11 free-position chances.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Plymouth State at 3 p.m., while the Bobcats take on Wesleyan at 12 p.m.
