• Ninth-ranked Babson, which owns a Division III-best 14-game unbeaten streak wraps up its five game home stand when it hosts Castleton and No. 1 Norwich this weekend at the Babson Skating Center.
SERIES HISTORY
vs. Castleton
• Babson is 19-5-4 all-time against Castleton in a series that dates back to 2004.
• The Beavers are unbeaten over their last nine games (8-0-1) against the Spartans and have won five straight meetings inside the Babson Skating Center.
• Sophomore Mike Egan scored 4:31 into overtime to lift Babson to a 3-2 win over Castleton on the road back on November 23.
vs. Norwich
• Babson is 25-44-7 all-time against Norwich in a series that dates back to the 1975-76 campaign.
• Despite dropping five of their last six in the series, the Beavers have gone 3-1-1 against the Cadets on home ice dating back to 2016.
• Maxime Borduas scored a pair of goals to help Norwich defeat Babson, 2-0, back on November 22.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 9 Babson (14-3-2, 9-2-1 NEHC) is unbeaten in its last 14 games and has won five straight contests following Saturday's 5-1 victory over Southern Maine.
• Senior Ryan McDougall scored twice and sophomore Matt Wiesner and first-year Andrew Holland combined for two goals and three assists for the Beavers, who got points from eight different players.
• Sophomore Ryan Black (8-15-23) has produced eight points over the last five contests, Wiesner (8-12-20) enters the weekend riding a five-game points streak, and Egan (11-7-18) is tied for the Division III lead with five game-winning goals.
• Junior Aidan Murphy (9-0-1) and junior Brad Arvanitis (5-2-1) have combined to a post a 1.26 goals against average and a .958 save percentage to go along with five shutouts in 18 starts between the pipes this winter.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
• Castleton (5-13-2, 3-9-1 NEHC) has dropped its last five games and is coming off a 7-4 loss to Skidmore last Saturday.
• Junior Glenn Wiswell finished with two goals and one assist for the Spartans, who got 39 saves in a losing effort from sophomore netminder Kyle Alaverdy.
• Wiswell (11-10-21) is coming off back-to-back multi-goal games against Skidmore and Hobart, first-year Calvin Moise (5-10-15) is tied for first among league rookies in points, and junior Nick Gravina (5-7-12) is second on the squad with three power play goals.
• Alaverdy is 1-3-1 with a 4.23 goals against average and a .882 save percentage in 11 appearances, while first-year Brandon Collett has gone 3-9-1 with a 4.47 goals against average and a .900 save percentage in 13 starts this winter.
SCOUTING THE CADETS
• No. 1 Norwich (16-2-2, 11-1-1 NEHC) extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games with a 3-0 win over then-sixth-ranked Hobart last Saturday.
• Junior Ryan Boucher and seniors Jordan Hall and Taeron Lewis all scored for the Cadets, who got 28 saves from senior goaltender Tom Aubrun.
• Junior Felix Brassard (14-9-23) is tied for second in Division III with eight power play tallies, classmate Colby Downs (7-13-20) is tied for second on the team in goals, and sophomore Gabriel Chicoine (3-15-18) leads the squad in assists.
• Auburn, who has started 19 of 20 games, is 15-2-2 and ranks first in Division III in goals against average (1.10) and shutouts (5), and is second nationally with a .955 save percentage.
CONFERENCE RECOGNITION FOR EGAN
• Coming off a four-point weekend that included a pair of game-winning tallies and three goals in all, Egan was selected as the NEHC Player of the Week on Monday.
• He scored twice and had a hand in each of Babson's first three goals in a 4-2 win over NEC last Friday before scoring in the first period of Saturday's triumph over Southern Maine.
BLUE LINE PRODUCTION
• McDougall enters the weekend tied for first in the NEHC with 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists) this season on the power play, and is fourth overall among league defensemen with six goals and 11 assists for 17 points through 19 games.
• His 17 points are already the fourth highest total by a Babson defenseman going back to 2010, and his six goals are the fourth most over the last two decades.
DEFINED BY DEFENSE
• During its current 14-game unbeaten streak, the Green and White has posted five shutouts while allowing two or more goals on just four occasions for a 0.99 goals against average.
• The Beavers enter the weekend ranked third in Division III in scoring defense and rank seventh on the penalty kill having giving up just six goals in 56 shorthanded situations for an 89.3 percent success rate.
• Additionally, Babson averages the fewest penalty minutes (6.89) in the country.
STREAKING INTO THE WEEKEND
• Wiesner leads the Green and White with points in five consecutive games going back to the team's January 11 win at Skidmore.
• Black (2-3-5) and Holland (3-3-6) have both produced points in three straight contests.
JOCKEYING FOR POSITION
• With last Saturday's win over Southern Maine, Babson joined Norwich as the first two NEHC squads to secure a berth in February's eight-team conference tournament.
• The Beavers, who have hosted a first round conference playoff game in every season since 2012, begins the weekend in second place. They are four points behind the first-place Cadets and three points clear of third-place New England.
STRONG BETWEEN THE PIPES
• Despite having his scoreless minutes streak snapped just shy of 191 in last Friday's 4-2 victory over New England College, Arvanitis remains unbeaten with a 0.49 goals against average and a .985 save percentage stopping 197-of-200 shots during this stretch.
• Overall, Arvanitis ranks first in Division III in save percentage (.964), second in goals against average (1.12) and is tied for second with four shutouts in eight starts.
• Not to be outdone, Murphy ranks fourth in both goals against average (1.38) and save percentage (.953), and is the only Division III netminder that has not suffered a loss while starting at least seven games this winter.
NO. 1 COMES TO TOWN
• The Green and White will face Norwich when it is sitting atop the USCHO.com poll for the second time this season and ninth time since 2012 on Saturday.
• Babson is 2-5-1 in its previous eight matchups against the top-ranked Cadets, which includes a 2-2 OT result in 2017, the last time the No. 1 team in Division III visited the Babson Skating Center.
NUMBER TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 12-0-0 this season and have gone 34-0-1 since the start of the 2017-18 season when carrying a lead into the second intermission.
