THE SERIES
Babson and Emerson will meet for a three-game series beginning on Friday afternoon in Babson Park. The Beavers are 13-0 all-time against the Lions and won three tight games a season ago.
LAST MEETING
Seniors Ryan Arena, David Lennon and Mark Webber all drove in a run, while classmate Matt Cuneo became the program's all-time saves leader as Babson clinched a share of its first regular season title since 2011 with a 5-2 victory over Emerson on April 24, 2017, in Brockton. Junior Edward Lehr struck out five over seven innings to earn the win for the Beavers. Danny Johnson had an RBI single for the Lions.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Emerson (7-20, 1-12 NEWMAC) is in the midst of a five-game losing streak after falling to Gordon, 7-2, on Wednesday. Joey Jacobs and a single and two walks for the Lions, who were limited to just three hits in the loss. Senior Neil Perry is batting .311 with nine runs batted in, classmate Pablo Feldman is hitting .250 with three doubles and 12 RBI, and first-year John Gabert enters the weekend with a .220 average to go along with three extra-base hits and a team-high 13 runs driven in. Sophomore Jack Fox is 1-6 with two saves, a 4.53 ERA and a 44 strikeouts in 49.2 innings for an Emerson staff that owns a 7.57 team ERA.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Babson (21-10, 11-3 NEWMAC) enters the weekend looking to bounce back from a 4-3 10-inning loss at No. 23/28 Southern Maine on Thursday afternoon. Lehr doubled twice and sophomore Jake Oliger drove in a pair of runs with a fourth-inning double for the Beavers, who led 3-1 going to the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore Sean Harrington is batting .355 with nine extra-base hits, 21 runs batted in and a league-high 23 walks, Arena is hitting .347 with 10 doubles, eight homers and 32 RBI, and junior Eric Jaun checks in at .327 with eight extra-base hits and 16 runs driven in. Classmate Connor Gill is 4-1 with a 2.87 ERA in six starts, while senior John Floegel has gone 2-2 with a 3.82 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 40.0 innings pitched this spring.
RISING IN THE RANKINGS
The Green and White received 19 points in the latest D3baseball.com poll and 13 points in Tuesday's ABCA poll. The Beavers also moved up two spots to third in the NEIBA regional poll behind UMass Boston and Southern Maine.
SHOT AT THE TITLE
The Green and White enters its final series of the regular season with a shot to capture its second consecutive NEWMAC regular season title. Babson is a half-game ahead of MIT, who faces Wheaton this weekend, and one game better than Clark, which opens a three-game set with Coast Guard on Friday. The Beavers own the head-to-head tiebreaker with MIT but were swept by Clark to begin league play back in late March.
STREAKS TO WATCH
Webber extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a first-inning single on Thursday and is now tied for third longest stretch with at least one base hit in program history. Additionally, Lennon and Oliger have reached base safely in 20 and 16 consecutive outings, respectively,
