THE SERIES
Babson and Emerson will meet for just the fifth time on Saturday afternoon in a series that dates back to 2014. The Beavers are 4-0 all-time and have outscored the Lions 53-4 in three previous matchups in addition to a forefit victory in 2016.
LAST MEETING
Junior Samuel Mishkind scored three times and visiting Babson College got goals from 11 different players on its way to defeating Emerson , 15-1, in on April 26, 2017, at Rotch Field. Senior Axel Brown and sophomore Thomas Jung each had three goals and classmate Owen Allen dished out three assists in the win for the Beavers.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Emerson (5-6, 0-2 NEWMAC) suffered its second loss in a row as visiting UNE downed the Lions, 26-5, on Wednesday afternoon. First-year Tim Doyle led Emerson's offense with two goals, while junior Cameron Radenberg, classmate Jared Brush, and sophomore Austin Franklin each chipped in with one goal. Sophomore Austin DiPietro picked up 11 groundballs, while junior goalie Bailey Kennedy logged four saves on the day. Brush (20-3-23) has recorded five man-up goals, Radenberg (16-19-35) is the team leader in assists, and the duo of junior Marshall Tate and first-year Jiwon Kim have caused a combined 22 turnovers. DiPietro has picked up 95 groundballs and won 64.1 percent of his face-offs on the year, while Kennedy has logged an 11.77 goals against average and a .448 save percentage in 10 appearances.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Babson (5-5, 2-0 NEWMAC) recorded six unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to defeat visiting Springfield, 11-8, on Saturday afternoon. First-year Mason O'Hanlon scored four goals of Babson's six fourth quarter goals, senior Austin Fabel found the back of the net twice, and the goalkeeping duo of sophomore Christopher Aranalde and first-year Mac Mowat combined for seven saves. Mishkind (31-2-33) and junior Niall Dillon (12-9-21) have combined to score 12 man-up goals and O'Hanlon (17-7-24) has five goals and two assists over the first two league games. First-year Jack Tague and Mishkind are tied for the team lead in groundballs with 32, and both Tague and first-year John Antaya have caused 11 turnovers. Aranalde has posted an 11.93 goals against average and a .446 save percentage in 10 contests this spring.
SHUT DOWN DEFENSE
Led by Tague, who finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers on his way to earning NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, the Beavers' defense limited Springfield to just two shots while forcing five turnovers in the fourth quarter of last Saturday's tilt. Antaya added three ground balls and forced three turnovers, while sophomore Luke Talman also recorded three ground balls to go along with one caused turnover.
IMPROVING AT THE X
Despite ranking last in the league in face-off percentage, the Green and White went 10-for-22 at the X against Springfield, highlighted by an 8-of-16 performance by senior Connor Maloney.
ON TARGET
Although he was held without a goal or a point in Saturday's win over Springfield, Mishkind ranks 34th in Division III in goals per game (3.10) and 62nd nationally with a .443 shooting percentage.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Beavers are 3-0 this season and have gone 10-1 over the last two years when carrying a lead into the fourth quarter.
