Second-Half Rally Lifts MIT Over Men's Lacrosse, 13-10

Box Score

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Junior Jack Kelly (Milford, Del.) scored four times and classmate Graham Davis (Crofton, Md.) added three goals and three assists as MIT rallied from a three-goal halftime deficit to defeat visiting Babson, 13-10, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

Babson, which had won nine straight against MIT entering the day, falls to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while the Engineers improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the NEWMAC.

Sophomore Samuel Mishkind (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and first-year Owen Allen (Franklin, Mass.) both scored twice, while sophomore Brendan Duffy (Duxbury, Mass.) added a goal and two assists for the Beavers. First-year Kevin Klempner (Stuart, Fla.) won 15-of-26 face-offs and led all players with nine ground balls, junior Jack O'Donoghue (Scituate, Mass.) chipped in with eight ground balls and five caused turnovers, and senior Zach Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.) added four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the loss.

Junior Christian Jamison (Huntington, N.Y.) and sophomore Aubrey Toland (Princeton, N.J.) caused three turnovers apiece.

O'Donoghue gave the Green and White a 2-1 lead after one and tallies by Duffy and junior Axel Brown (Little Compton, R.I.) doubled the margin less than three minutes into the second quarter. The Engineers pulled even with two goals in 24 seconds at the 8:01 mark, but sophomore Brett Bottomley (Mercer Island, Wash.), Allen and senior Matthew Logan (Downingtown, Pa.) all scored over the final 6:47 of the stanza to give the Beavers a 7-4 edge at the half.

Babson's lead was still three early in the third quarter before the Engineers seized control of the game with an 8-1 spurt over the next 22 minutes. Davis scored once and set up a pair of goals to help MIT pull even at 9-9 after three quarters, and the hosts got tallies from four different players over the first 9:16 of the fourth to build a 13-9 advantage with less than six minutes to go.

Mishkind got the Green and White within three with 4:51 remaining, but Lynch made three late saves to secure the Engineers' first win over the Beavers since 2010.

First-year goaltender Christopher Aranalde (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) recorded 15 saves for Babson, which held a 47-43 edge in shots.

The Beavers return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Rensselaer at 6:30 p.m., while MIT visits Clark on Friday at 8 p.m.
