Box Score O'Halloran Becomes Program's Single-Season Assist Leader as Beavers Win for Eighth Time in Nine Games
BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Francesca Giovanucci (Easton, Mass.) led all players with four goals and junior Charlotte O'Halloran (Middletown, R.I.) finished with two assists to become the program's single-season leader as Babson College defeated Endicott College, 11-10, in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday at MacDowell Field.
Babson, which has won eight of its last nine games, improves to 11-5, while Endicott had its nine-game winning streak snapped and falls to 12-4 overall.
Senior Emily Bresnahan (Wenham, Mass.) scored three times and junior Christine Regan (Osterville, Mass.) caused a team-high three turnovers for the Beavers. Giovanucci tied for game-high honors with four draw controls, while senior Katie McKenna (Sandwich, Mass.), who notched the game-winning goal, won three draws.
Senior Emily Whitney (Rye, N.H.), first-year Jennifer Lacroix (Wrentham, Mass.) and classmate Meghan Dutchyshyn (Cheshire, Conn.) all scored three times for the Gulls. Senior Meghan Lennon (Canton, Mass.) dished out three assists and sophomore Ali Campbell (Lakeville, Mass.) led all players with four caused turnovers.
Endicott jumped out to an early 3-1 lead before the Green and White responded with six of the game's next seven goals. Junior Lyndsay Giroux (Westwood, Mass.) tied the game with 17:39 to go in the opening half and Giovanucci notched two straight markers to give the Beavers a 7-4 advantage with less than six minutes to go in the period.
Junior Mairead Williams (Hingham, Mass.) extended the advantage to 9-6 with a free-position tally less than four minutes into the second half. Endicott responded with four of the next five goals though, including three by Whitney, to pull even at 10-10 with 18:11 left. McKenna put Babson back in front 37 seconds later and both defenses took over down the stretch.
Sophomore goaltender Bella Rino (Northborough, Mass.) made a pair of late saves to keep the margin at one, but the Gulls were unable to put a shot on cage over the final 17 minutes. Whitney missed high on a free-position chance with 10:02 to go and Regan caused a turnover in front of the crease with 1:07 remaining to help seal the win.
Senior Stevie Burger (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and first-year Olivia Phelan (Wilton, Conn.) combined to make three saves for the Green and White, while Rino stopped 10 shots for Endicott.
The Beavers finished with the advantage in shots (24-18), draw controls (14-9) and ground balls (13-9), and converted 14-of-16 clearing opportunities.
