Box Score DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Seniors Brendan Coan (Towson, Md.) and Spencer Low (Natick, Mass.), and sophomore Taylor Segreti (North Potomac, Md.) all scored three goals apiece as visiting Babson College powered past UMass Dartmouth, 21-6, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Cressy Field.
Babson, which halted a five-game skid, is now 2-7 overall, while UMass Dartmouth dropped its sixth consecutive game and is also 2-7.
Sophomore Axel Brown (Little Compton, R.I.) added two goals and two assists, while senior Scott Doten (Western Springs, Ill.), classmate John Harrison (Pembroke, Mass.) and first-year Brendan Duffy (Duxbury, Mass.) all contributed two goals and one assist for the Beavers. Sophomore Jack O'Donoghue (Scituate, Mass.) led all players with five ground balls, and he and junior Zach Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.) each caused two turnovers.
Senior Bo Prozinski (Ashland, Mass.) finished with three goals and an assist to lead the Corsairs, who won 5-of-7 first-quarter face-offs and matched their biggest lead of the game at 5-2 with 11:38 to go in the second quarter. The Green and White responded with a six-goal run to build an 8-5 lead at the break. First-year Niall Dillon (Duxbury, Mass.) scored twice and Brown chipped in with a goal and an assist during the spurt.
UMass-Dartmouth pulled within 8-6 on a tally by senior Alex Lucas (Brookfield, Mass.) just 1:09 into the third, but the Beavers ripped off 13 unanswered goals to finish the game. Juniors Connor Flaherty (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) and Matthew Logan (Downingtown, Pa.) made it 10-6 at the 10:52 mark, and Logan later set up Low's second marker of the period to extend the lead to 14-6 going to the fourth.
Brown and Coan capped their hat tricks early in the final quarter, while Duffy and Harrison combined for three goals and an assist over the final 15 minutes to help Babson top the 20-goal mark for the second time this season.
Sophomore Jordan Shapiro (Pleasantville, N.Y.) stopped six shots in 45 minutes for the Beavers, while junior Matt LaFond (Bridgewater, Mass.) made six saves in three quarters of action for the Corsairs.
The Green and White finished with a 36-19 edge in shots and went 21-of-22 on its clear opportunities. The Beavers also forced UMass Dartmouth, which won 19-of-30 face-offs, into 25 turnovers.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts MIT at 11 a.m., while UMass Dartmouth travels to Southern Maine at 1 p.m.
