Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Rachel Passarelli (Hamden, Conn.) scored a game-high four goals, and senior Meghan Mills (Far Hills, N.J.) notched two of her three goals in the second half as top-ranked Amherst College pulled away from Babson College for a 12-5 victory in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at MacDowell Field.

With the win, Amherst is now 2-0 on the year, while Babson drops to 0-2.

Sophomore Coco Kusiak (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored twice, while junior Mia Houghton (Princeton, N.J.) contributed a goal and an assist, as well as four groundballs for the Lord Jeffs. Senior Sarah Spector (Narbeth, Pa.) and sophomore Claire Cagnossola (Summit, N.J.) each tallied once in the win.

Senior Rachel Secrist (Westford, Mass.) finished with three goals, one assist and three groundballs to lead the Beavers. Junior Mackenzie Tucci (Winchester, Mass.) and sophomore Kiley Fischer (Marblehead, Mass.) each scored once, while junior Kayla Farina (Newton, Mass.) and sophomore Katie McKenna (Sandwich, Mass.) tied for team-high honors with three draw controls.

After Mills and Tucci traded goals in the opening 6:14 of the game, Spector and Cusiak scored just 46 seconds apart on free-position shots to give Amherst a 3-1 lead with 20:13 left in the first half. The Green and White countered with three of the next four goals though, as Secrist scored twice, and Fischer buried a free-position shot to tie the game at 4-4 with 44 seconds left in the opening stanza. Cagnassola won the ensuing draw and Passarelli scored after being fouled with seven seconds to go, giving the Lord Jeffs a 5-4 advantage at the break.

Kusiak scored a free-position goal 90 seconds into the second half, and Mills followed with back-to-back markers to give Amherst an 8-4 lead with 16:42 to play.  Lord Jeffs' junior goalkeeper Christy Forrest (Madison, Conn.) made stops on both Farina and Fischer midway through the period, and Passarelli notched consecutive goals to give the visitors their biggest lead of the game at 12-4 with 5:02 to play.

Secrist capped the scoring with her seventh goal of the season with 2:11 to go in the contest, collecting her own rebound at the edge of the crease and beating Forrest for Babson's only second-half goal.

Beavers' sophomore goalkeeper Stevie Burger (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) finished with five saves, while Forrest stopped seven shots for Amherst.

The Lord Jeffs held a 19-15 edge in shots and an 11-6 advantage in draw controls.

The Green and White went 13-for-15 on clear opportunities and finished with an 18-13 edge in groundballs.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Skidmore at 2 p.m., while Amherst travels to Bowdoin for a 12 p.m. start.
