Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Ellie Clayman (Beverly, Mass.) scored a game-high three goals and Endicott built a six-goal second-half lead before holding on for a 9-7 victory over Babson College in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon at MacDowell Field.
With the win, Endicott is now 3-2 overall, while Babson dropped its third straight game to fall to 1-5 on the year.
Senior Kristen Thor (Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Cutting (Ferrisburgh, Vt.) each scores twice for the Gulls. Senior Siri Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) led all players with two assists and four draw controls.
Sophomore Christine Gill (Hingham, Mass.) and first-year Julia Harrigan (Portsmouth, R.I.) both had two goals for the Beavers. Sophomore Kiley Fischer (Marblehead, Mass.) added a goal and an assist, while sophomore Delaney Carroll (Acton, Mass.) finished with four groundballs and two caused turnovers.
The Green and White built a 2-1 lead with 23:16 to go in the first half behind goals from junior Kayla Farina (Newton, Mass.) and sophomore Francesca Giovanucci (Easton, Mass.). Endicott scored the final four markers of the first half, including two by Cutting, and the first three goals of the second half to cap a seven-goal run and build an 8-2 lead with 22:29 to go in the contest.
Clayman notched the final tally of the first half to give the Gulls a 5-2 lead, and followed with her second goal of the game just 1:50 into the second half to make it four-goal game. Thor then struck for back-to-back markers to open Endicott's biggest lead of the game.
After being held scoreless for over 33 minutes, Harrigan's first goal of the day helped spark a four-goal spurt for the Beavers. Gill followed with consecutive tallies to cut the deficit to 8-5 with 10:38 left, and Fischer scored just 32 seconds later after a draw control by sophomore Katie McKenna (Sandwich, Mass.) to get the Green and White to within 8-6.
Babson sophomore Stevie Burger (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) denied a shot by Clayman with just over seven minutes to go, and Thor was off target with a free-position chance before Clayman pushed the Endicott lead back to 9-6 with 4:16 remaining. Harrigan scored to get the Beavers within 9-7 at the 1:19 mark, but the Gulls won the ensuing draw control and ran out the clock.
Burger finished with five saves for the Green and White, while Gulls' sophomore goalkeeper Maura Grady (Marblehead, Mass.) made nine of her 13 saves in the first half.
The Beavers outshot Endicott 25-18, held a 15-11 edge in groundballs and forced 16 turnovers on the afternoon.
Babson returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Wesleyan at 5 p.m., while Endicott hosts Salve Regina on Saturday at 3 p.m.
