No. 3/3 Men's Ice Hockey Skates To 4-4 OT Tie At Nazareth

Box Score

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Sophomore Rob Devaney (Reading, Mass.) scored twice as third-ranked Babson College skated to  4-4 overtime tie with Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon at Bill Ryan's Regional Iceplex.

Babson, which extended its November unbeaten streak to 25 games, is now 7-0-1 on the year, while Nazareth moves to 2-3-3 overall.

Sophomores Charlie Ackerman (Bradenton, Fla.) and Jake Donahue (Groveland, Mass.) both finished with a goal and an assist for the Beavers. Junior Michael Phillips (Richmond Heights, Ohio) and first-year Tommy Munichiello (Weymouth, Mass.) each added an assist, while senior goaltender Jamie Murray (Scituate, Mass.) finished with 29 saves.

The Green and White jumped on top 1-0 at 12:45 of the first period when Donahue scored on the power play with a blast from just inside the blue line for his second goal of the year. The Golden Flyers tied the game at 17:09 on sophomore John Power's (Vernon Hills, Ill.) power-play goal, and then went in front when senior Scott Andler (Marietta, Ga.) scored just 20 seconds later. Devaney notched the first of his two goals less than a minute later though, pulling Babson even at 2-2 at the 18:16 mark of the opening stanza.

The Beavers were unable to convert on a pair of power play chances early in the second period, but went back in front on Devaney's shorthanded tally at 14:02. Nazareth tied the game just 41 seconds later though, as first-year David Powlowski (Rochester, N.Y.) scored on the power play to make it 3-3. The Green and White wasted little time responding as Ackerman scored just 19 seconds after the Golden Flyers were whistled for a cross check to go back in front 4-3 with 2:43 left in the period.

Murray made a pair of saves to open the third period, but junior Dominik Gabaj (Bratislava, Slovakia) stuffed home the rebound of his own shot to make it 4-4 at the 1:59 mark. Murray made 14 saves in the third period and overtime while his counterpart, senior Ed Zdolshek (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) of Nazareth, turned away 13 shots. Babson had the only power play opportunity in the five-minute extra session, but was unable to break the deadlock.

Zdolshek finished with 40 saves for the Golden Flyers, who were outshot 44-33 on the afternoon. The Beavers went 2-for-7 on the power play, while Nazareth scored on both its extra-man chances.

Both teams will return to action on Sunday at 3 p.m. as Babson visits Elmira, while Nazareth hosts Amherst.
