No. 11 Amherst Too Much For Women's Lacrosse

AMHERST, Mass.—Senior Krista Zsitvay (New Vernon, N.J.) scored five goals to help lift 11th-ranked Amherst College to a 16-2 season-opening victory over visiting Babson College in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.

With the victory, Amherst is now 2-0 on the year, while Babson drops to 0-2 overall.

Junior Rachel Secrist (Westford, Mass.) scored both goals for the Beavers, while first-year Caitlin Shaughnessy (Sudbury, Mass.) collected a team-high two groundballs.

Zsitvay scored four of her five goals in the first half and led the team with four draw controls as well. Senior Alex Philie (East Sandwich, Mass.) and sophomores Rachel Passarelli (Hamden, Conn.) and Mia Haughton (Princeton, N.J.) all scored two goals for the Lord Jeffs while five others added one each. Senior Caroline Holliday led the team in assists with three and added two groundballs.

Amherst set the tempo early, scoring four times in the opening six minutes and building its lead to 9-0 midway through the first half. Secrist scored both of her goals in the second half for Babson, which was outshot 29-6 for the game.

Sophomore goalie Christy Forrest (Madison, Conn.) made two saves in the win for the Lord Jeffs, while senior Julie Baharestani (Syosset, N.Y.) made a season-high nine stops.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson travels to take on Endicott at 1 p.m., while Amherst hosts Bowdoin at 12 p.m.
