Box Score MANSFIELD, Conn. – All-New England senior attack Trisha Babson (Duxbury, MA) had three goals and three assists, won 12 faceoffs and corralled eight draw controls to power the Babson College women's lacrosse team to a 15-4 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon.
Coming off a three-goal loss at No. 18 ranked Bates College Tuesday, Babson College (1-1) shut Eastern (2-2) out for 28 minutes after the Warriors scored on their first shot in the opening five minutes, scoring the final seven goals of the first half and the first one of the second half to move out to an 8-1 lead. The Warriors scored two of their four goals in the final 11 minutes.
Senior attack Colleen Mulligan (Hanover, MA), Babson, junior midfielder Jameson Spang (Kennebunk, ME) and sophomore attack Misha Beatty (Westwood, MA) combined for 13 of Babson College's goals to lead the visitors to their seventh straight triumph over Eastern in this ten-game series .Mulligan connected on four goals and Babson, Beatty and Spang three each. Erin Daley (Darien, Conn.) and Taylor Kralovenec (Cos Cob, Conn.) each tallied once for the Green and White. The Beavers converted six of 16 free-position opportunities, while the hosts were awarded only three and scored on one.
Trisha Babson won all eight faceoffs in the first half. She gained the draw control on five of those faceoffs, with senior defender Bridget McCurdy (Weston, MA) gaining possession of the other three.
Sophomore goalie Julie Baharestani (Syosset, NY) needed only three saves to even her season record in goal. After stopping 16 shots in a five-goal win at Roger Williams Thursday, Eastern senior Kristianna Ibsen (Shelton) stopped 15 shots, 12 coming in the first half when Babson College amassed a 24-5 advantage in shots.
One of four Eastern players to take a faceoff, freshman midfielder Taylor Shannon (Waterford) won five of seven tries, with sophomore attack Erin Conn (Moriches, NY) won four of nine and was credited with four draw controls. Conn scored three of Eastern's goals and now shares the team lead with 13. Junior defender Rachel Meotti (Glastonbury) matched Conn with four draws while sophomore midfielder Ashley Wolk (Barrington, RI) and senior defender Megan Barrett (Setauket, NY) each picked up two ground balls.
For Babson College, Daley caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls, while Spang had three ground balls to help first-year head coach Michelle Smith earn her first collegiate victory.
Babson is back in action next Friday afternoon when they host Tufts University in a 5 p.m. start, while Eastern visits Wesleyan University Wednesday at 4 p.m.
