Box Score BOSTON, Mass. -- Sophomore Shayne Anderson scored his first collegiate goal with just over a minute left in overtime to propel the Babson College men's ice hockey team to a huge 4-3 victory over host UMass-Boston in a matchup of ECAC East travel partners on Friday night. With the win, the Beavers extended their season-long unbeaten streak to four games while improving to 6-11-1 overall and 6-4-1 in league play. Meanwhile, the Beacons saw their four-game win streak come to a halt as they fell to 9-7-2 overall and 5-6-0 in the ECAC East.
Senior goaltender Andrew Peabody was sensational in net for Babson, making a season-high 40 saves nearly 64 minutes of action. The veteran netminder is now 3-0 with a 2.24 GAA and a .931 save percentage in his last three starts.
Goalie Alex Scola also went the distance in goal for UMass-Boston, finishing with 26 saves.
Babson twice rallied from one-goal deficits, first when junior Jay Haseley scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season to make it a 1-1 game at 6:02 of the second period and again when freshman Mike Driscoll potted his fifth of the year to tie the contest at 2-2 at 9:39 of the third. The Beavers then took a brief 3-2 lead less than a minute after Driscoll's goal, as junior Matt Leer lit the lamp for the third time this winter at 10:34.
UMass-Boston tied the game at 3-3 on the powerplay at 11:19 of the third, as Travis Daniel netted his sixth of the campaign. Babson would later enjoy a two-man advantage after back-to-back UMB penalties just 18 seconds apart, but Scola and the Beacon defense kept the Beavers off the board as the two teams headed to overtime knotted at 3-3.
Anderson's game-winner came at 3:53 of the extra session, with assists going to first-year Andrew Bonazza and senior captain Mike Hoban.
Friday night's game marked the Beavers' fourth overtime game in their last six outings, including three OT contests during the team's 3-0-1 unbeaten streak.
The two teams will lock horns again on Saturday, as they reconvene at Babson for the second half of the home-and-home series. That contest will begin at 4 p.m.
