Men's Ice Hockey

Peabody, Ice Hockey Subdue Saint Anselm, 4-1

Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Senior goalie Andrew Peabody made 33 saves in net to lift the Babson College men's ice hockey team to a 4-1 victory over host Saint Anselm College in an ECAC East battle at the Thomas F. Sullivan Arena on Friday night. With their second straight win, the Beavers improved to 5-11-0 overall and 5-4-0 in league play, while the Hawks slipped to 6-4-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the conference.

After freshman forward Mike Driscoll scored on the powerplay to open the scoring at 5:17 of the second period, sophomore forward Connor Berto scored what would prove to be the decisive goal when he netted his first of the season to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead near the midpoint of the second. Senior forward Cody Carlson picked up the assist on the winning strike.

Babson put the game away in an unusual manner in the third period, scoring two short-handed goals during a five-minute powerplay for the Hawks. Sophomore defenseman Ryan Heavey scored the first at 9:16 and senior forward Mike Hoban tallied the second with a score at 10:15 as the Beavers doubled their advantage to 4-0.

Saint Anselm finally broke through against Peabody in the waning seconds of the same five-minute powerplay, as  forward Tim King scored his fourth goal of the season at 12:24. Forward Tyler Savage and Eric Czapka collected assists on King's goal. However, that would be all the offense that the Hawks would muster as Babson skated off with the 4-1 win.

Peabody was sensational in net, making double-digit saves in each period to finish with 33 stops on the night. Hawks goaltender Nick Dries (Commerce Township, Mich.) drew the loss, turning in an 18 save performance and allowing all four goals. Saint Anselm was 1-for-4 on the power play, while Babson was 1-for-5 on its man-advantage opportunities.

The Beavers finish their weekend road trip on Saturday, when they look to avenge an early-season loss to New England College at 4:30 p.m.
