WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - The Babson College women's lacrosse team
went on a 7-0 run to start the game and never looked back as they
defeated host Eastern Connecticut State University, 18-6, on
Thursday afternoon. Babson was led by senior captain Anna
Collins (Winchester, Mass.) who tallied three goals and
four assists for seven total points. With the win, the Beavers
improve to 2-0 on the season while the Warriors of Eastern
Connecticut start their season off at 0-1.
The Beavers scored the first seven goals of the contest in just
over 15 minutes of play and went on to score an additional seven
before halftime to give themselves a comfortable 14-3 lead at the
break. Babson eventually went on to score four more second half
goals resulting in the 18-6 win for the Beavers. The Beavers
outshot their opponents 32-14 with 25 of those shots coming in the
first half while forcing 26 Eastern Connecticut turnovers.
Eight different Babson players scored in the victory including
three goals apiece from Collins, junior Alyssa Hood
(Newport, R.I.), senior captain Kaitlyn Pettengill
(Hopkinton, Mass.) and sophomore Trisha Babson
(Duxbury, Mass.). First-years Taylor Kralovenec
(Cos Cob, Conn.) and Jamie Spang (Kennebunk,
Maine) each added two goals while junior Ellen
McCurdy (Weston, Mass.) and sophomore Erin Daley
(Darien, Conn.) each chipped in with one goal. Defensively
the Beavers were led by McCurdy who picked up five groundballs
along with Pettengill and Trisha Babson who each had a game high
four caused turnovers. Trisha Babson also won eight draw controls.
Eastern Connecticut was led by junior Ashley Del Vecchio who
finished with three goals. First-year Daniela Marchitto, sophomore
Ashley Prizio and senior Taylor MacDonald each added one goal for
the Warriors.
Babson junior goalkeeper Sarah Macary (Woodbury, Conn.) went the
distance in net making four saves. Eastern Connecticut first-year
goalkeeper Nancy Ibrahim made eight saves in her collegiate debut.
Babson returns to action on March 11th when they visit Endicott
for a 4pm game.
