BOX SCORE

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College sophomore Morgan DeShaw (Danville, N.H.) scored her seventh goal of the game in sudden-death overtime to help the Gulls defeat No. 8 Babson College, 17-16, on Thursday night in Beverly, Mass. The Blue and Green improve to 2-0 overall while handing the Beavers their first loss of the season, dropping Babson to 2-1.

Endicott jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first 14 minutes of action as DeShaw and Valerie Feldman (Albany, N.Y.) scored the first two goals of the contest on free-position scores. Endicott's Lauren Todd (Newfield, N.H.) netted her first career goal on a feed from Feldman for the Gulls' third score before Kellie Cunningham (Derry, N.H.) forced a turnover in the Babson backfield, leading to a fast-break chance for Feldman and a 4-0 lead. Babson responded quickly, netting a pair of goals in an 11-second span on shots from Anna Collins (Winchester, Mass.) and Taylor Kralovenec (Cos Cob, Conn.) to make it a 4-2 game.

Feldman would score on another turnover in Babson's half of the field before the Beavers' Kaitlyn Pettingill (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Trisha Babson (Duxbury, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals, making it a 5-4 ballgame. Morgan DeShaw netted her second goal of the game by knifing through three defenders for a 6-4 lead but Pettengill would score two straight goals to tie the game at six-all. Kellie Cunningham found DeShaw to take the lead back and then Cunningham found Feldman almost a minute later for another breakaway goal and an 8-6 lead. However, the Beavers would add one more score from Collins before the break to trail 8-7 at the half.

The teams traded goals at the beginning of the second period before Babson's Collins scored back-to-back goals to knot the game at 10. Following a Cunningham score, Babson took its first lead of the game on consecutive scores from Pettengill and Kralovenec, 12-11. Endicott would take back control of the game, scoring three straight – including a pair of goals from Feldman – to give EC a 14-12 lead with 9:03 to play in regulation.

Pettengill and DeShaw traded goals before Babson's Collins made it a one-goal game, 15-14, followed by Kralovenec tying the game on a free-position score with 3:41 to play. Babson assumed control and ran the clock down to under a minute when a foul near the goal was called, leading to a free-position shot for Pettengill with only :23 seconds left in regulation. Endicott's Leah Neff (South Berwick, Maine) was up to the task as the sophomore goalkeeper turned away Pettengill's attempt and the Gulls held on to force overtime.

Endicott struck first in the extra period as Kellie Cunningham scored on a free position bounce shot to take a 16-15 lead. After the teams switched sides, Babson tied the game when Jamie Spang (Kennebunk, Maine) found Collins in front of the net to tie the score at 16-all. Valerie Feldman had a chance to win it for the Gulls with :09 seconds showing but Sarah Macary (Woodbury, Conn.) swatted Feldman's free position attempt and forced sudden-death OT.

Off the draw control in sudden death, Feldman scooped up the ground ball as Endicott set up its attack. Carin Czerniawski (Monroe, Conn.) found DeShaw in front of the net and the sophomore attacker fired a sidearm shot that flew under the crossbar and into the back of the net to give the Gulls a 17-16 win only :25 seconds into the final OT.

Morgan DeShaw led all scorers with her seven goals while Valerie Feldman added six of her own with an assist and seven ground balls. Kellie Cunningham netted a pair of goals and dished out three assists with seven groundballs and four caused turnovers. Lauren Todd and Kristen Micho (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored the other two goals for Endicott while Czerniawski also grabbed seven ground balls.
