BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – The Babson College ice hockey team
fell to Williams College by a score of 6-1 in a non-conference
contest at the Gallo Ice Arena on Saturday afternoon. With the
loss, Babson fell to 2-2-0 on the season, while Williams remained
unbeaten at 4-0-0.
After Evan Dugdale scored to give the Ephs a 1-0 lead at 11:37
of the first, Williams increased its lead to 3-0 with two more
scores in the second period. Sasha Voloshin netted his first of the
year at 3:03, and Eric Rubino added his fourth of the season at
10:37. At the other end, Ephs' goalie Ryan Purdy stopped all
11 shots that he faced in the period as his team took a 3-0 cushion
into the second intermission.
Williams struck again early in the third, as Ben Cotini netting
his third of the winter to make it 4-0 at 3:14. Babson finally
broke through against Purdy when sophomore Jay Haseley
(Rochester, N.Y.) scored his second of the year off
assists from first-year Pat Guerriero (New York,
N.Y.) and sophomore Ryan Smith (Lynnfield,
Mass.) at 5:44, but the Ephs potted two more goals in the
final 14 minutes to finish off the 6-1 victory.
Purdy finished with 28 saves in net for Williams, while junior
Andrew Peabody (Marblehead, Mass.) turned away 35
shots in goal for Babson. The Ephs outshot the Beavers by a count
of 42-29 in the contest.
The Beavers return to the ice on Sunday afternoon, when they
host Nichols College at 3 p.m.
