BOX SCORE
BABSON PARK, Mass. – Junior goalie Andrew Peabody
(Marblehead, Mass.) made 28 saves to help the Babson
College Beavers defeat visiting UMass-Dartmouth, 3-1, in a
non-conference men's ice hockey matchup at the Babson Skating
Center on Tuesday night. With the win, the Beavers moved back over
the .500 mark at 2-1-0 on the season, while the Corsairs suffered
their first defeat of the year to fall to 3-1-1.
Babson jumped out to an early lead less than five minutes in, as
sophomore Jay Haseley (Rochester, N.Y.) drew a
faceoff back to junior Cody Carlson (Peterborough,
N.H.) at the top of the right circle in the
UMass-Dartmouth zone. The veteran forward then wristed a shot into
the lower right corner for his second goal of the season at
4:59.
The Corsairs evened the score with a powerplay goal at 11:25 of
the first, as junior Mike Owens (South Boston, Mass.) tipped a
blast from the blue line by senior Adam Horgan (Clayton, N.C.) into
the far right corner from the left side of the crease for his third
goal of the year. However, the Beavers regained the advantage later
in the session when first-year Pat Guerriero (New York,
N.Y.) stuffed home a rebound of junior Mike
Hoban's (Medfield, Mass.) wrap-around shot for his
first collegiate goal at 15:32. The hosts would eventually carry
that 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Babson added to its lead with a powerplay score late the second
period, beginning when first-year Shayne Anderson
(Dorchester, Mass.) fired a shot from the blue line that
was saved by UMass-Dartmouth senior goalie Collin Tracy (Medford,
Mass.). Hoban then redirected the rebound to sophomore Ryan
Smith (Lynnfield, Mass.), who pushed it over the goal line
from point-blank range at 17:28. It was Smith's second of the
season and it gave the Beavers a 3-1 advantage.
The two-goal lead was more than enough for Peabody, who stopped
all eight shots that he faced in the second period and then 12 more
in the third to finish with 28 saves in the game. At the other end,
Tracy also made 28 stops in just under 59 minutes of action for
UMass-Dartmouth.
