MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - After a scoreless first period, Babson scored
five second period goals, three in a 2:56 span, on its way to a 5-1
win over Salve Regina in the third-place game of the Middlebury
College Holiday Classic. Senior Chris Wood earned
a hat-trick during the second period of the game to earn
All-Tournament team honors. Salve Regina's Patrick Bambery also
made the all-tournament team.
Senior Casey Fazekas opened the scoring with a
blast from the blue line for a five-on-three power play goal.
Senior Shane Farrell found Wood on the power play
for a quick one-timer to make it a 2-0 game at 3:05. Wood struck
again just 1:45 later, redirecting a quick pass from junior
Terry Woods for a shorthanded goal.
Salve Regina broke up the scoring run at 6:07 with a goal from
Bambery to make it a 3-1 game. Babson answered as sophomore
Cody Carlson and first-year Jay
Haseley worked a give-and-go with Carlson finding the back
of the net at 6:51. Wood notched the hat-trick at 18:34, converting
a pass from first-year Matt Leer for his
third tally of the period to make it 5-1 after two.
Sophomore Andrew Peabody made 16 saves to earn
the win for Babson, while Ben Bradley stopped 37 stops for Salve
Regina. The Beavers outshot their opponents 42-17 on the afternoon.
