BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Babson College men's lacrosse team
defeated Clark University, 12-5, in a key Pilgrim League contest on
Wednesday night at MacDowell Field. Six unanswered goals in the
fourth quarter sealed the victory for the Beavers who have now
improved their overall record to 4-8 on the season and 3-1 in the
Pilgrim League. With the loss, Clark has dropped to 2-10 on the
season , 1-3 in the Pilgrim League. Babson was led once again by
senior E.J. Peterson (Framingham, Mass.) who
scored five goals in the win.
In the first period, the game remained scoreless until the 5:59
mark when sophomore Andrew Packer (Hudson, Ohio)
put the Beavers on the board with a goal off a pass from senior
teammate Matt Harrington (Hanover, Mass.).
Harrington setup another goal just 48 seconds later feeding the
ball to first-year Paul Grip (Shrewsbury, Mass.)
to put Babson up 2-0. Clark first-year Chris Johnson (Amherst,
Mass.) then scored at the 2:37 mark to make the score 2-1 going
into the second period.
Clark senior tri-captain Shawn Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) scored
an unassisted man-down goal just over 90 seconds into the second
period to tie the game, 2-2. Babson then scored three unanswered
goals to bring their lead to three, 6-3 with 2:55 remaining in the
half. Roche followed with another goal at the 2:30 mark to bring
the Cougars back within two, 6-4, at the half.
After a scoreless third period, the Beavers scored six
unanswered goals, including four in under four minutes to inflate
their lead to eight, 12-4 with 2:26 left in the game. Three of
Peterson's goals came in the fourth quarter while first-year
Jeff MacCune (Braintree, Mass.)contributed his
first collegiate goal in the period. Clark junior J.C. Tsagarakis
(Stonington, Conn.) scored the final goal of the game at the 1:32
mark resulting in the 12-5 final.
In the game, Babson outshot the Cougars 42-20. Along with
Peterson's five goals, seven other Babson players scored.
Harrington scored his first goal of the season and added three
assists. Sophomore Armand Wilson (Fairfield,
Conn.) had one goal and two assists while senior
Matt Enright (Bristol, R.I.) and MacCune each
tallied one goal and one assist. Rounding out the Beaver's offense
were sophomore Chris Smith (Wayland, Mass.), Grip
and Packer who each scored one goal. Defensively Babson was led by
first-year Cam Caruso (St. Charles, Ill.) with
seven groundballs and sophomore Christian Ebert (Boxford,
Mass.), who picked up six. Senior Max Owen
(Hamilton, N.J.) and sophomore Mike Saucier
(Nashua, N.H.) split the time in goal for the Beavers
combining for seven saves.
Roche led the Cougars with two goals and teammates Eugene
Arsenault (South Portland, Maine), JC Tsagarakis, and Chris Johnson
each tallied one. Sophomore Time Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) had a
game high 15 groundballs. Senior goalkeeper Tyler Campbell
(Portland, Ore.) played all but the final two minutes of the game
making 11 total saves.
The Beavers return to action on Saturday when they visit
Springfield College for a Pilgrim League contest at 1pm. Clark will
also continue Pilgrim League play on Saturday when they host MIT
for an 11am game.
