BABSON PARK, Mass. - Senior tri-captains Lindsay Bucci
(Medford, Mass.) and Jackie Godfrey (Franklin,
Mass.) recorded six points apiece as the 12th-ranked
Babson College women's lacrosse defeated visiting Eastern
Connecticut State University, 17-4, in a non-conference contest at
Babson's MacDowell Field on Sunday afternoon. It was the second
straight victory to start the year for the Beavers (2-0), while the
Warriors (0-1) fell in their season opener.
Bucci led all players with four goals to go with a pair of
assists, while Godfrey netted two scores and assisted on four
others. Junior Anna Collins (Winchester, Mass.)
added three goals for Babson, while senior tri-captain Jess
Parker (Cataumet, Mass.), first-year Trisha Babson
(Duxbury, Mass.), and first-year Erin Daley
(Darien, Conn.) each contributed two scores. Junior
Kaitlyn Pettengill (Hopkinton, Mass.) recorded one
goal and two assists, and sophomore Sam Sulliman (Rye,
N.Y.) rounded out the Beavers' scoring with one goal.
Sophomore Sarah Macary (Woodbury, Conn.) played
just over 46 minutes in net, finishing with four saves.
Sophomore Ashley Del Vecchio (Fairfield, Conn.), junior Brooke
Wayte (Bellport, N.Y.), junior Katie Beers (Trumbull, Conn.), and
first-year Nicole Shusdock (Norwalk, Conn.) each scored one goal in
defeat for ECSU, while first-year goalie Kristianna Ibsen (Shelton,
Conn.) went the distance in net, making 11 saves.
Babson jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage, as Bucci and
Collins each netted goals in the first 1:22. The Warriors then cut
their deficit in half with a goal by Wayte at 27:27, but the
Beavers rattled off nine unanswered goals over the remainder of the
period - seven of which came in the next 10 minutes - to take a
commanding 11-1 lead into the break. Babson then scored six of the
first seven goals in the second half, including two by Parker,
before ECSU struck twice in the final nine seconds of regulation
for the 17-4 final.
