BABSON PARK, Mass. - Sophomore Eric Vasil (Southington, Conn.)
scored three goals and picked up a game-high 14 ground balls to
lead the visiting Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to
a 15-8 win over host Babson College in a non-conference men's
lacrosse contest at MacDowell Field on Thursday afternoon. It was
the first game of the year for ECSU, while the Beavers fell to 0-2
on the season.
Vasil won 14 of 15 face-offs for the Warriors, recording 11 of
his 14 ground balls on his own face-off victories. Sophomore Brian
Fechtmann (Levitttown, N.Y.) matched his classmate with three
goals, while senior Matt Savage (Southington, Conn.) tacked on one
goal and three assists. Senior DJ Simmons (Mystic, Conn.) and
junior Zach Malouf (Norwich, Conn.) each contributed two goals for
ECSU, while senior Kyle Savage (Southington, Conn.) made 10 saves
in just under 53 minutes in net.
Babson was led by senior E.J. Peterson (Framingham,
Mass.), who scored three goals, and senior Bryan
Wilbur (Hingham, Mass.), who added three assists. Senior
Max Owen (Hamilton, N.J.) started in net and made
five saves in 28 minutes of action before giving way to sophomore
Mike Saucier (Nashua, N.H.), who stopped nine
shots in 32 minutes.
The Beavers held a 3-2 lead after one, thanks to two early
scores from Peterson and another by sophomore Andrew Packer
(Hudson, Ohio). However, the Warriors began pulling away
with a dominating second quarter in which they outscored the hosts,
7-1, to take a 9-4 advantage into the half. ECSU then two
unanswered goals in the third and two more to start the fourth en
route to the 15-8 victory.
