BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Babson College men's ice hockey team
erupted for a season-high 10 goals as the Beavers exploded past
visiting Saint Anselm College, 10-3, in an ECAC East men's ice
hockey matchup at the Babson Skating Center on Friday night. With
the victory, the Beavers improved to 8-10-1 overall and 7-7-0 in
the conference, while the Hawks fell to 8-9-0 overall and 4-6-0 in
ECAC East play.
Babson dominated from the outset, netting three unanswered goals
while posting a 16-7 shot advantage in the opening period. Junior
Chris Wood (Medford, Mass.) put the Beavers on the
board when he scored from the slot off consecutive feeds from
sophomore Terry Woods (Duxbury, Mass.) and
first-year Sean Roche (Franklin, Mass.) at 8:40.
Junior Jason Schneider (Littleton, Mass.) then
made it 2-0 when he tucked a pass from senior co-captain
Brad Baldelli (Northboro, Mass.) inside the right
post on a powerplay at 12:38, and senior Alex DiPietro
(Winthrop, Mass.) netted his team's third goal when he
scored from the right side of the crease off another Baldelli
assist at 19:38.
The Beavers put the game away with five more goals from five
different players in the second period, including Wood's second of
the night at 15:34. Also adding scores in the period for Babson
were senior captain Nick Jones (Melrose, Mass.),
junior Ian Goodwin (Cooper City, Fla.), senior
Pat McLaughlin (Berlin, Mass.), and senior Matt
Harrington (Hanover, Mass.). Saint Anselm also tallied a pair of
goals in the session, as sophomore Nick Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.)
struck on the powerplay at 7:15 to make it 4-1 and senior Mike
Nunzianto (Guilford, Conn.) later added a goal that made it 7-2.
Sophomore Paul Snell (Groton, Mass.) netted Saint Anselm's
second powerplay goal of the night at 7:35 of the third, making it
8-3, but Harrington scored his second at 10:23 and Woods struck at
11:31 to cap off the impressive 10-3 Babson victory.
First-year goaltender Andrew Peabody (Marblehead,
Mass.) played the first two periods and made 13 saves on
15 shots for Babson, while junior Travis Clarke (Waltham,
Mass.) turned in a strong third period, turning away nine
of the 10 shots that he faced. Sophomore Alex Wyse (Amherst, N.Y.)
was the first of three goalies for Saint Anselm, finishing with 17
saves in 32:28. Senior Pat Gallagher (Framingham, Mass.) played the
final 7:32 of the second period and made six stops, and first-year
Brian Dowd (Hamburg, N.J.) turned in 14 saves in the third session.
