HARTFORD, Conn. - Senior Chris Wood (Medford,
Mass.) tallied a hat trick to lead the Babson College
Beavers over the Trinity College Bantams 3-0 in men's ice hockey
action at Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center this
afternoon. Trinity falls to 3-2-1 on the season, while Babson
improves to 6-2-1.
The game went scoreless into the second period until Babson
sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Peabody (Marblehead,
Mass.) got all the offense he would need on Wood's
unassisted first goal of the game, which came midway through the
period at the 12:42 mark. Wood struck again five and a half
minutes later after receiving passes from teammates Shane
Farrell (West Warwick, R.I.) and PT Donato
(Arlington, Mass.) during a Beaver power play. The final
goal came with just 18 seconds remaining when Wood took it again
himself to score his first career hat trick. Peabody finished the
game with 18 saves, earning his second shutout of the season, and
making him just one of two goalies since Jan. 21, 2006 to blank the
Bantams offense.
Trinity junior goaltender Wesley Vesprini (Lexington, Mass.)
made 33 stops in the game, giving him 68 saves in his last two
games.
The Beavers next visit the University of Massachusetts Boston on
Wednesday evening for a 7pm game.
