WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Babson College mounted a 58-41 advantage
in shots at Williams College on Saturday afternoon, but the Beavers
were forced to settle for a 4-4 overtime tie with the Ephs in a
non-conference matchup.
Babson (1-2-1) jumped in front with two goals in the opening
five minutes of play. The first came when sophomore Sean
Roche netted his first of the season off an assist from
senior assistant captain Chris Sabo at 2:15, and
the second came when first-year Ryan Smith potted
his second goal of the year off feeds from junior Terry
Woods and senior Ian Goodwin at
4:53.
Williams rallied with three unanswered goals to move in front
3-2 - the first coming when Zach Miller scored to put the Ephs on
the board at 18:33 of the first. Eric Rubino and Ben Contini then
netted back-to-back scores just 43 seconds apart in the opening
minutes of the second period to give the hosts a one-goal lead.
The Beavers tied the game at 4:51 of the second, as senior
Liam Chatterton and sophomore Dan
Ahern assisted sophomore Mike Hoban on
his first of the year to make it a 3-3 affair. Babson then regained
the lead less than five minutes later, as sophomore Cody
Carlson scored his second of the season off a pass from
senior Casey Fazekas at 9:09.
Williams scored the only goal of the third period - a tally by
Mike Brofft at 9:20 - to even the score at 4-4. The two teams then
played a scoreless five-minute overtime period before settling for
the 4-4 tie.
Sophomore Andrew Peabody went the distance in
net for Babson, finishing with 37 saves, including five in the
overtime session. Ryan Purdy made 54 stops in goal for Williams.
