OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Babson men's ice hockey team closed out a
tough weekend at the Pathfinder Bank Oswego Classic on Saturday
afternoon, as the Beavers fell to Skidmore College, 5-2, in the
consolation game. With the loss, Babson dropped to 3-5-1 on the
season, while the Thoroughbreds improved to 5-3-0.
The Beavers struck first in the contest, as junior Jason
Schneider (Littleton, Mass.) scored off an assist from
senior Alex DiPietro (Winthrop, Mass.) just 1:08
into the game. However, that would prove to be Babson's only shot
of the opening period as Skidmore mounted a 13-1 shot advantage in
the session. Two of those shots found the net for the
Thoroughbreds, as Tyler Doremus and Hunter Thayer each scored to
give Skidmore a 2-1 edge heading into the first intermission.
Skidmore continued to pour on the offense in the second period,
with Anthony Ferri and Doremus each scoring in the first 8:18 to
push their team's lead to 4-1. First-year Dan Ahern
(Melrose, Mass.) got one back when he scored his first
career goal off assists from Schneider and senior co-captain
Brad Baldelli (Northboro, Mass.) at 8:46, but Mike
Gibbons tacked on an empty net goal with 1:24 left to finish off
Skidmore's 5-2 victory.
First-year Andrew Peabody (Marblehead, Mass.)
played all but seven seconds in net for Babson, finishing with a
career-high 42 saves.
The Beavers return to action this Friday, when they host
Hamilton in a conference matchup at 7 p.m.
